RANT. Why would they let me rent the car

I’m a pretty frequent renter of vehicles from rental companies (not like Turo or FlexCar but actual brick&motor rental companies)

Recently I’ve been getting the WORST of the worst. I traded in an electric vehicle I did NOT reserve but took because it was all they had other than a U-HAUL sized truck they wanted me to pay the difference of (yea NO-why let me reserve AND PREPAY for a vehicle you don’t have then try to up charge me to a bigger vehicle?! I’m 5’6 I don’t want to drive or park a freakin U-HAUL sized vehicle😂😭)

Anyways the replacement is picked up and lo and behold a check engine light came on! of course i immediately tell them my concerns and all I get is “this is all we have available”🥹😫

Do they not have to inspect these things? What should I do? I can’t afford to jus rent from somewhere else when they have my money, I can’t cancel or I’ll lose my money but this is ridiculous😤
