地図の読み方、特に等高線の理解は中学受験の社会で差がつきやすいポイントです。実際に私の子どもも最初は等高線の意味が掴めず、地図を見て『どこが高いの？』『坂が急ってどういうこと？』と戸惑っていました。しかし、説明にあるように、等高線の間隔を見ることで地形の起伏がイメージできると理解が進みました。 縮尺の違いによって等高線の間隔が10m毎か20m毎か変わるルールも重要で、これを覚えていることで地図を正しく解読する力が身につきます。私たち親子は地図帳を広げて実際の地形と照らし合わせながら、等高線をたどってみる学習法を取り入れました。これによって数値だけの理解から視覚的に地形をイメージする力がつき、断面図や標高の意味も自然と覚えられました。 また、地図の読み取りでは東西南北の確認も欠かせません。方向を間違えないために常に地図の向きを確認する癖をつけたことで、文章題での失敗を減らせました。私は子どもに「なんとなく解かないこと」を強調し、一つ一つのポイントを丁寧にチェックする大切さを教えています。 さらに暗記カードを活用しスキマ時間に反復練習することで、用語の意味や読み取りのコツが定着しました。忙しい受験勉強の中でも短時間で確実に復習できるのが大きなメリットです。暗記カードは携帯しやすく、テキストよりも手軽なので子どもも前向きに取り組めました。 これから地図の学習に取り組む方は、まずは等高線の線の間隔に注目し、実際の地形をイメージする練習を繰り返すことをおすすめします。断面図や標高などの用語も「なぜそう呼ぶのか」をしっかり理解しながら進めると、問題を解く際の混乱が少なくなります。実体験から言っても、理解が曖昧なままで進めるより、一歩ずつ着実に押さえていくことが合格への近道だと感じています。
