College mom
Is there any other mama’s that are also in college ? Everyday I feel overwhelmed by wanting to excel in school but having to divide my time between college, my baby, housework, and being able to do something small for myself like going to the gym 😖 I know it’ll all be worth it one day but right now it feels like everything at once #college #momlife
Oh, mama, I completely feel you! The juggle is so real, isn't it? That feeling of wanting to excel in your classes while also being the best mom to your little one, keeping the house running, and somehow, *somehow*, finding five minutes for yourself is a daily marathon. I remember looking at my 'mini' and thinking, 'How am I going to do all of this?' It's definitely the ultimate test of resilience, and yes, it will absolutely be worth it one day. But while we're in the thick of it, a little sisterly advice and shared experience can go a long way. For me, the absolute game-changer has been ruthless time management. And I don't mean a perfect color-coded binder (though if that's your jam, go for it!). I mean finding those tiny pockets of time. Can you listen to a lecture recording while you're folding laundry or pushing the stroller? Can you get a chapter read during naptime, even if it's just 20 minutes? Schedule everything, even your gym time or coffee break, and treat it like a non-negotiable appointment. Sometimes, I'd even use my baby's tummy time as my study time – flashcards spread out, reading aloud. It sounds chaotic, but you learn to adapt and be incredibly efficient. Prioritize your tasks: what absolutely has to get done today for school, and what can wait? Don't be afraid to let some things slide if it means preserving your sanity. When it comes to academics, don't be afraid to communicate with your professors. Many understand the unique challenges of student parents and might offer some flexibility or advice. Look into campus resources specifically for student mothers – some universities offer childcare, lactation rooms, or even counseling services. Study groups with trusted classmates can also be a lifesaver, allowing you to share notes and explain concepts to each other, making the learning process more efficient. Building a strong support system is crucial for navigating the demanding college mom's life. If you have family or a partner, communicate your needs openly. Could they watch your baby for an hour so you can focus on a difficult assignment or have a quiet moment? Are there other 'moms in college' groups, online or on campus, you can join? Sharing struggles and triumphs with others who truly get it made me feel so much less alone and gave me practical tips I hadn't considered. Don't be too proud to accept help when it's offered, whether it's a meal from a friend or an offer to babysit. And that gym time, or whatever your 'me time' is? Protect it fiercely. Even if it's just a 15-minute walk, a hot shower, or sipping your coffee in silence before the house wakes up. You can't pour from an empty cup, and ironically, those small breaks make you more efficient, patient, and resilient when you return to your responsibilities. I used to feel so guilty taking time for myself, but I realized that a happier, less stressed mama is a better mama and a better student. You are also teaching your 'mini' the importance of self-care by example. Remember why you started this journey. Every late-night study session, every moment of feeling pulled in a million directions, is building a brighter future for you and your 'mini'. You're showing them what dedication, perseverance, and achieving your dreams looks like. It's incredibly tough, but you are strong enough. Keep pushing, mama. You've got this!
