... Read moreLiving with and supporting someone who is autistic can be a deeply rewarding yet challenging journey. From my personal experience with my son Kel, who is autistic, I have learned the importance of daily encouragement and positive reinforcement. It’s incredible how a few kind words or a simple gesture can brighten someone’s day and boost their confidence. One thing I’ve noticed is that people often make snap judgments within seconds of meeting someone. This phenomenon highlights how crucial it is to foster awareness and patience, especially when interacting with autistic individuals. Taking a moment to understand their perspective can change an encounter from stressful to supportive. Another key lesson I’ve learned is the power of routine and familiar environments for my son. Having a predictable schedule and clear communication helps reduce anxiety and makes daily life smoother for him. It’s also vital to celebrate small victories, whether it’s managing a social situation or learning a new skill. If you have autistic family or friends, try to offer encouragement consistently and recognize their strengths. Remember, every autistic person is unique, so tailoring your support to their individual needs can make a significant positive impact. Sharing experiences and being open to learning from others in the autism community can also provide valuable insight and foster a sense of belonging. Ultimately, promoting understanding and kindness creates a more inclusive environment not only for autistic individuals but for everyone. Embrace the journey with patience, empathy, and love, and every day can indeed be glorious.

Living with both ADHD & autism

Why ADHD and autism diagnoses matter
I thought I was autistic for a year or so before I was formally diagnosed. And as far as ADHD goes, I was pretty sure I had it for several years before I was evaluated. So, imagine my lack of surprise when I was dual evaluated for both and it was determined that I am indeed AuDHD. But something
