How to Weed Out Clothes You Don't Wear 👇

It's hard sometimes, seeing that dress that you spent so much on only to wear twice, sitting in the back of your closet collecting dust. You still keep it though, because eventually you'll wear it again, right? Or that leather jacket that you SWEAR still fits even though you don't wear it often because you fight like a tiger to get it on and off. Or that shirt your friend got to match together with you that you secretly think is super ugly and avoid wearing at all costs. I had the same problem with the dresses above, because, once-upon-a-time, I fit perfectly in those dresses and spent a pretty penny on them. However, going through my closet recently, I noticed that these dresses and many other clothes no longer fit like they used to, nor did I wear them enough to justify keeping them in my wardrobe, so I'm letting go of a lot of things. If I don't know if I want to keep something, I usually ask myself, "Will it make me happier to wear this, or will it make me happier to get rid of this and get something that I WOULD be happy wearing?"

Start by assessing each item carefully—ask yourself when you last wore it and if it still fits your style. Consider the emotional attachment you might have to certain pieces, but remember, it's crucial to prioritize your happiness and confidence in what you wear. One popular method is the Marie Kondo approach, where you keep only those items that 'spark joy.' This means asking yourself if a piece makes you feel excited and self-expressive. If not, it's likely time for it to go. Furthermore, try organizing your closet in a way that makes it easy to see everything you have. This might include turning all hangers in one direction and then flipping them as you wear each item. After a month, you'll see which clothes remain unworn and can easily identify what to donate or toss. Additionally, consider seasonal changes as a great opportunity to reassess your wardrobe. Each season, take stock of what you wore, loved, and what you haven’t touched. This habit keeps your closet organized and fresh, ultimately making it easier to maintain a personal style that resonates with your current self. Remember, letting go of clothing can be difficult, but it's a small step towards a more intentional and fulfilling wardrobe.
