January 13th, next #WftM: Wolf moon!
The next weirdos for the moon art challenge day is coming up tomorrow! January 13th and it will be our first full moon. It is called the Wolf moon. 🐺🐺🐺 which is mainly about the howling of the wolves this time of year. It is also considered the stay at home or quiet moon. I think it relates to the idea that all winter, we've been partying and now it's time for a nap lol Join in if you'd like!

As the January 13th Wolf Moon approaches, I've been pondering deeply about our art challenge prompt: 'what is the unfolding form of the wolf's howl reflecting in the snow?' It's such a poetic and evocative question, guiding my creative process for this month's Weirdos for the Moon entry. For me, the idea of a howl 'unfolding' isn't just about sound, but about its energy and presence taking on a visual form. Imagine the raw power of a wolf's cry, not just heard, but seen – like ripples in the air, or the visible breath in the frosty night. When I think of it 'reflecting in the snow,' my mind immediately goes to the way light behaves on a fresh blanket of white. Snow isn't just a surface; it's a mirror, a canvas, and a diffuser all at once. Perhaps the howl's reflection could be the way moonlight dances on snowdrifts, casting long, ethereal shadows that seem to hum with a silent song. Or maybe it's the subtle shimmer of ice crystals, each one catching a fragment of that unseen vibration. I’m considering different ways to capture this. For my piece, I might experiment with luminous paints or iridescent mediums to mimic the way light reflects off snow and ice. I'm drawn to cool blues, stark whites, and deep indigos, perhaps with a hint of silver to represent the moonlight. I’m thinking about abstract shapes that suggest sound waves, or perhaps a more literal depiction of a wolf's breath misting in the cold air, each wisp carrying the essence of a silent scream. It’s all about translating an auditory experience into a visual one, letting the stillness of the winter landscape amplify the power of the wolf's voice. This artistic exploration aligns so perfectly with the 'stay at home or quiet moon' aspect of the Wolf Moon. It feels like a time for introspection, for sinking deep into creative thought in the comfort of my own space. There’s a certain magic in turning inward during these colder months, letting the quiet inspire a different kind of vibrant expression. It's a meditative process, allowing me to truly connect with the primal energy of the wolf and the serene beauty of a snowy night. So, HEY, WEIRDOS FOR THE MOON, how are you interpreting this challenge? As JANUARY 13 gets closer, I’m excited to see everyone’s unique take on the Wolf Moon and its howling reflections. Let’s make some art that truly captures the spirit of this powerful winter moon!
