... Read moreHey everyone! I wanted to share a bit more about the creative journey behind my latest mixed media piece, 'In My Lab.' You know that feeling when an idea just clicks, and you can’t wait to bring it to life? That’s exactly how I felt with this one. It started with a fascination for historical figures, especially someone as iconic and groundbreaking as Marie Curie, and then my imagination took over, picturing her in a whimsical, almost fantastical lab setting. Mixed media art is truly my happy place. There’s something so liberating about not being confined to just one medium. For 'In My Lab,' I played with layers of watercolor, collage elements, and various textures to build up the scene. It’s like telling a story not just with imagery, but with the very fabric of the piece itself. The process of blending these different materials, letting them interact and create unexpected effects, is what makes it so exciting and, as I mentioned, incredibly cathartic. Each layer adds a new dimension, and the final result is always a delightful surprise, even to me! Finding inspiration is a huge part of being an artist, and it can come from anywhere. Sometimes it's a historical figure, other times it's a scientific concept, or even just a random word or place that sparks a narrative in my mind – like imagining a fictional town called doyville and wondering what kind of quirky science might happen there! It’s about keeping your eyes and mind open to the world around you and letting those little sparks ignite a bigger vision. For this piece, the idea of experimentation, both scientific and artistic, really resonated with me. For anyone looking to dive into mixed media, my biggest advice is to just start. Don't be afraid to experiment! Grab some old magazines, watercolors, acrylics, even bits of fabric or found objects. There are no rules, and that's the beauty of it. Let your intuition guide you. What textures do you want to combine? What colors speak to you? The more you play, the more you'll discover your own unique style and voice. It’s all about the journey of discovery and allowing yourself to be surprised by what emerges on your canvas. It’s such a wonderful feeling to finish a piece that truly captures your vision and emotions. Sharing my work, especially as part of a 'Finished Work Friday' tradition, is incredibly rewarding. It’s a chance to connect with fellow art lovers and share a piece of my creative soul. Knowing that my art might bring a smile to someone’s face or spark their own imagination makes all the hours of creating worthwhile. And yes, if you're curious to see more of my finished pieces, you can always find them at tuffjulz.etsy.com. Happy creating, everyone!
