If you’re a fan of unique, darkly whimsical art, the Edward Gorey contest offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase your creativity. Edward Gorey was an American artist known for his distinctive pen-and-ink drawings filled with gothic and macabre elements, often blending humor with eerie themes. This contest invites participants to explore those themes in their own artistic style. Even if you're new to the style, engaging with Gorey’s work can inspire you to experiment with storytelling through visual art, much like how Gorey combined illustration and narrative. The contest is especially fitting around Halloween, a time when spooky aesthetics are celebrated. Artistic contributions could include drawings, paintings, digital art, or even mixed media, as long as they reflect the imaginative spirit of Edward Gorey’s creations. For those interested in joining, visiting tuffjulz.etsy.com can provide more details about submission guidelines, deadlines, and potential prizes. By joining this community effort, you can connect with fellow artists sharing a passion for gothic, surreal, and whimsical art styles. Don’t miss out on this chance to celebrate a legendary artist by adding your own unique touch to the contest!

A handwritten note from 2002 inside a book, partially obscured by yellow smiley face stickers and overlay text indicating it's a note from the 2000s. The note details a gift inscription and a later discovery date of February 14, 2025.

The orange cover of 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats' by T.S. Eliot, with drawings by Edward Gorey. The cover features various anthropomorphic cats in black and white illustrations.

A clear view of a handwritten note inside a book. The note is dated April 6, 2002, from 'Bob' to 'Georgia,' and includes a later entry from 'RuriKo "Rudy"' dated February 14, 2025, describing finding the book.

Found a note from the 2000’s——->

Side quest: find a time capsule. Optional: leave a trace I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the 2000’s. I wonder what the original owner of the book is doing now? I wonder who will find my note when I’m gone… #2000sbooks #Lemon8Diary #timecapsule #2000s #thriftfinds

Halloween should be spooky, not gorey…

This is your sign to dress cute and take photos with your besties!!! I’m so obsessed with how these photos came out and I feel so much more confident with myself and with my photography. Also just hanging out with my friend, dressing up cute and taking photos is a recipe for the best afternoon!!
