3 Day West Road Trip
Here is everywhere we stopped on our 3 day Road Trip from Seattle to San Diego! #travel #roadtrip #Lemon8Diary #nature
Hey fellow adventurers! If you're dreaming of an epic West Coast road trip, I've got you covered. My recent Seattle to San Diego journey in just 3 days (or a flexible 3.5 if you take your time like I did on some stops!) was absolutely unforgettable. Here’s a deeper dive into how I made the most of every mile and what you absolutely can't miss. Day 1: From Emerald City to Oregon's Dramatic Coastline We kicked things off by exploring downtown Seattle, grabbing some coffee, and definitely making a stop at the iconic Space Needle for those panoramic city views. But honestly, the real magic began after we headed south. A must-see detour (and worth the extra time!) was Mount Rainier National Park. The scale of the mountains and the pristine nature there is just breathtaking – it's a perfect way to immerse yourself in the PNW's natural beauty before hitting the road for serious mileage. As we drove further south, the landscape transformed. The Oregon coast truly stole my heart! I highly recommend stopping at viewpoints like Meyers Creek Beach Viewpoint and Samuel H Boardmen Vista Point. The rugged cliffs, sea stacks, and crashing waves create scenery straight out of a postcard. Just remember to layer up, even in summer, as the coastal breeze can be chilly! Finding a cute motel along the coast for the night was a perfect end to a long day of driving and exploring. Day 2: Mighty Redwoods & Iconic Bridges Waking up to the sound of the ocean was amazing. Our next leg took us into Northern California, and this is where the idea of a Kalmath Tree Tour in CA really came to life for me. While not explicitly named on my map, this refers to the incredible redwood forests! Driving through the Avenue of the Giants, peering up at those colossal trees, felt like stepping into another world. It's truly humbling. Don't just drive through; stop and walk a short trail to fully appreciate their grandeur. Continuing south, our excitement built as we approached San Francisco. Crossing the legendary Golden Gate Bridge was an absolute highlight – definitely pull over at one of the viewpoints for that classic photo op. Before reaching the city, we also made a quick stop at Shark Fin Cove, a unique and picturesque spot that’s perfect for a short leg-stretch and some cool photos. San Francisco offers so much, but for a fast-paced trip, seeing the bridge and maybe a quick drive through was enough for us before pushing on towards our next stop. Day 3: Southern California Sun & San Diego Arrival Our final day was all about soaking up the Southern California vibes. One of my absolute favorite stops was the Santa Monica Pier. The lively atmosphere, the Ferris wheel, and the expansive beach are just quintessential SoCal. It’s a great place to people-watch, grab some beach snacks, and just relax a bit after all that driving. Finally, we reached our destination: San Diego! While my initial plan was for 3 days, we technically had a relaxed 'Day Four' where we explored Balboa Park. If you only have 3 days, you can absolutely integrate a visit to Balboa Park on your arrival day in San Diego, especially if you get there in the afternoon. It’s an amazing urban cultural park with beautiful architecture, gardens, and museums – a perfect way to wind down a massive road trip. My Top Tips for Your West Coast Drive: Pace Yourself: While 3 days is ambitious, it's totally doable if you're prepared for long driving days. Consider adding a half-day or full day if you want more relaxed exploration, especially in national parks. Snacks & Hydration: Keep a cooler stocked! There are stretches where good food options are sparse. Download Maps Offline: Cell service can be spotty, especially in remote areas. Book Stays Ahead: Especially during peak season, good accommodations fill up fast. Enjoy the Views! This drive is truly about the journey. Don't rush every scenic turnout. This road trip was an absolute blast, packed with diverse landscapes and iconic landmarks. I hope my experience helps you plan your own unforgettable West Coast adventure!
