Air Force + Mom= ????
Being in the Air Force is a dream I always had. Being a mom is something I always wanted to be. However, I wasn’t ever sure about mixing the two.
I was scared sh*tless when I found out I was pregnant. I wasn’t sure what life in the military would look like with a baby. Most of my friend that I served with got out after having kids to be stay-at-home moms…was that what I was supposed to do too??
I wasn’t sure if I’d see my daughter less if I stayed in the Air Force. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle my workload and then come home to take care of a baby. I wasn’t even sure if I could financially provide for her (daycare is EXPENSIVE)!
However, the day I brought her into this world, I knew that no matter what, we were going to get through it all together!!
If anything, I’m more proud of myself than ever. I’m still able to function like normal at work, I’m financially stable & don’t have to worry about daycare breaking the bank (military bases provide daycare for a third of what daycares cost off base), and I get to leave work early sometimes when my daughter has events at daycare!
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but overall I’d say that being a parent while in the Air Force has been the greatest challenge for me!

This experience can be a profound awakening, reshaping one’s identity and outlook on life. Many military moms have shared that their children have taught them resilience and courage, enriching both their personal and professional lives. The journey might not be easy, but the rewards of raising a family while serving in the military are immeasurable.
