Working in Aussie’s restaurants and bars…

In order to work in Australia’s bars and restaurants that serve alcohol 🍷 🍸 🍺, employees must hold a valid Responsible Service of Alcohol certification. I found an online certification website and spent about two weeks completing the 170+ questions.

I did not really read the notes entirely before attempting the questions because it works like an open book test where we are allowed to refer to the notes while attempting the questions. The platform even linked the question to the exact part of the notes where the answer can be found. Of course, half of the questions are application questions, so even with the notes, I still had to do some calculations or draw logical conclusions on my own. Nonetheless, I would say that the questions were tricky, but not difficult😏

You don’t have to make payment before attempting the questions, so until you manage to clear the questions, you won’t have to fork out a cent! I managed to finish the questions, but did not proceed with making payment. They sent me an email two weeks before the expiry date of the course to remind me to do so, but I let it lapsed. This means that I have to re-do the questions again if I want to attain the certification. So, if you’re doing it, just make payment once you’re done!

There are also a range of other certifications you can do on the website, and no prizes for what I am aiming to do next! (Last pic 🙃)

... Read moreWhen I was preparing for the RSA certification, I found it helpful to understand the specific requirements for different states, like NSW, WA, and Queensland, as the course content and regulations can vary slightly. For example, the VGCCC RSA quiz is often integrated into the process for Victoria. The course handbook provided valuable guidance, especially on compliance notifications such as those from EOT in NSW, which ensure that your training status is up to date and valid. Staying informed about these notifications can help avoid lapses. I also discovered that many platforms, including Express Online Training, offer payment plans and allow you to begin the course without upfront fees. This approach gives you the chance to complete and review the course materials at your own pace without financial pressure. For those doing the QLD RSA course online, it's a great opportunity to fit the study into your schedule while ensuring you meet all regulatory requirements. Remember that once you finish the coursework and quiz, you need to make the payment promptly; otherwise, your progress may expire, requiring you to restart the course. Overall, my experience highlighted the convenience and practicality of doing the RSA certification online, as long as you keep track of payment deadlines and state-specific requirements. This certification is a key step toward working legally and confidently in Australia's hospitality industry.
