hi everyone!! returning back with a small food guide on what to eat at upper thomson
these all my fav restaurants/stalls i love to go to
1. tom yum mama
the foods are all super yummy nothing i had tried is bad yet. my go to order is claypot tomyum noodle and kang kong!
the tomyum is on a sweeter side and the ingredients given were generous! not to mention even though it is served on claypot the noodle was not soggy
sambal kang kong is super flavourful not too salty and good to go along with rice
2. siam mookata
this place is not foreign to anyone by now! good supper spot to hang around as they open till 3/4am
3. macdonald
this is by far my fav outlet beside the bishan park one, as their fries never fail me! is always super hot and crispy and the milo is always very gao (not like other outlets)
4. er xiao jie ban mian
omg i love this ban mian so much!!! i always order A2 change the noodle to mee hoon kueh. A2 comes with fried chicken, and they fry the chicken upon order so is super crispy. but the downside is the q is always insanely long, same goes to the waiting time. also it is kinda overprice as the noodle is quite little (you can add noodle for $1.50 extra)
5. nam kee chicken rice
this is an old school restaurant for chicken rice. they serve hearty zhi char dishes too like sweet and sour pork, sambal kang kong, etc. taste wise not too bad but definitely the standard has dropped compared to last time
6. ming fa fishball noodle
this is my go to bar chor mee stall. super yummy and never disappoint! price wise i think is affordable as their portion is quite huge

For example, when visiting Siam Mookata, I recommend trying their variety of marinated meats alongside fresh vegetables to fully enjoy the communal dining experience. The lively atmosphere there, especially late at night, makes it a perfect spot for group dinners or supper outings.
If you’re craving something quick and nostalgic, the McDonald’s outlet in Upper Thomson stands out due to its consistently crispy fries and rich Milo drink – a unique local favorite. Don't hesitate to pair your meal with their popular McSpicy burger for a satisfying combo.
For noodle lovers, besides Er Xiao Jie Ban Mian, Ming Fa Fishball Noodle is a fantastic option. The generous portion sizes and affordable price make it a go-to for a filling lunch or dinner. Their broth is always flavorful, and the fishballs are fresh and bouncy, perfect for a comforting bowl of noodles.
Also, it's worth noting that Nam Kee Chicken Rice serves classic Singaporean chicken rice and traditional zhi char dishes that are great for sharing. Although the taste might have shifted slightly over time, the nostalgic feel and hearty portions still draw locals and visitors alike.
When planning your food adventure in Upper Thomson, consider the opening hours, especially for supper spots like Siam Mookata which stay open until the early hours. This flexibility means you can enjoy these tasty options whether during lunch, dinner, or late-night cravings. Don't forget to try sambal kang kong at multiple stalls too—it's a savory side that complements many dishes well!
Overall, Upper Thomson offers a diverse range of flavors and dining styles. From claypot tom yum noodles with their sweet tang to crispy fried chicken freshly cooked upon order, the variety ensures that every visit is uniquely satisfying.
