Just Got Your RDA? Here’s What’s Next 👇

So you just became an RDA… now what?

Here’s what nobody really tells you ⬇️

💺 Chairside Assisting

🧼 Sterilization & Room Turnover

📦 Inventory & Lab Runs

🦷 Ortho, Oral Surgery, Pediatrics & More — all require different setups, instruments, and routines.

Real talk?

When I started, I didn’t know what half the instruments were for 🫠

It felt overwhelming — but here’s what helped me:

📓 Bring a notepad + pen

✍️ Write down what you learn each day

👀 Ask questions! Don’t just assist — absorb

If you’re still in school or waiting to test:

✨ Shadow in your free time. Walk into local offices and ask. Most will say yes, and it helps so much.

This journey is a learning curve — take it one tray at a time 🤍

... Read moreTransitioning into your role as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) can feel daunting at first. Understanding the key responsibilities is vital for your professional development. As an RDA, you'll be involved in various tasks such as chairside assisting, managing sterilization protocols, and performing lab runs. Each dental specialty, including orthodontics, oral surgery, and pediatrics, presents its own unique challenges and requirements, which makes practical experience all the more important. Developing strong observational skills will benefit you immensely in this field. Utilize every chance you get to shadow experienced RDAs and dentists. Asking questions and taking notes during shadowing will enhance your learning experience. This active participation allows you to absorb practical knowledge and skills that are not always covered in the classroom. Moreover, don’t underestimate the importance of soft skills in your new role. Communication and teamwork are essential when working alongside dentists and other dental professionals. Practice these skills by engaging with your colleagues and patients, ensuring that you can provide the best care possible. With the right approach, you’ll build a solid foundation in your RDA career. Remember, it's a journey that requires patience and dedication. Track your learning progress, remain engaged with your workplace, and embrace every opportunity to enhance your dental knowledge and skills.
