Night routine with 9 month old 🫧🎀
Establishing a smooth night routine for your little one, especially around the 9 to 10-month mark, can feel like a quest for the holy grail of sleep! I know I've been there, trying to figure out what works best to ensure my baby gets those much-needed Zzzs, and honestly, for my sanity too! It's not just about getting them to sleep; it's about creating a predictable, comforting sequence that signals to their little brains that bedtime is near. Our Night routine w/9month old has evolved, and I'm excited to share what we've found truly helps usher in a peaceful Bed time for us. One of the biggest game-changers for us was consciously starting the wind-down process before we even think about the crib. For us, this means about an hour before we want them asleep. This is when we Stop Bubble Guppies Fun! Seriously, turning off any screens or high-energy toys is crucial. We switch to quieter play, maybe some soft music, or just some gentle crawling around the living room. It’s all about dimming the lights and lowering the energy in the house. This transition period is key for helping them shift from active play to a calm state, which makes the next steps much smoother. Next up, Bath hygiene! Our nightly bath isn’t just about getting clean; it’s a sensory experience that signals relaxation. I make sure the water is warm and cozy, and we use a gentle baby wash that smells calming. It’s a time for splashes and soft play, but always kept mellow. No wild splashing battles! Sometimes, I'll even add a few drops of baby-safe lavender essential oil to the water (diluted, of course, and always check with your pediatrician first!). After the bath, it's straight into a warm towel, a gentle massage with lotion, and into their pajamas. This physical comfort is so important for setting a relaxed tone. Then comes the Night bottle. Whether you're breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, this feeding right before bed is a cornerstone of our routine. I try to make it a quiet, bonding moment in a dimly lit room. We cuddle, I hum a soft tune, and sometimes my partner will take over so I can have a moment. It’s important for them to get a full feed to prevent hunger wake-ups, but also to try and keep them awake enough during the feed so they don't associate falling asleep on the bottle completely. A little drowsiness is fine, but we aim for them to finish the bottle and still be a tiny bit aware. Finally, it’s Goodnight,zz time. After the bottle, we head to the nursery. We have a set of board books we read, or I'll sing a couple of lullabies. Consistency here is paramount. The same books, the same songs, the same final cuddle. We put them down drowsy but awake, giving them a chance to self-settle. This has been a journey, and some nights are easier than others, but sticking to this sequence has made a world of difference. A gentle pat, a whispered "I love you," and then it's lights out (or very dim nightlight on). For parents navigating bedtime for a 9 month old or transitioning to bedtime for a 10 month old, remember that patience and consistency are your best friends. There might be sleep regressions, teething woes, or developmental leaps that temporarily disrupt things, but returning to your established routine helps immensely. Don't be afraid to adjust elements as your baby grows, but keep the core sequence predictable. My night routine isn't perfect, but it's our routine, and it brings us closer to those sweet dreams we all crave!
And we watch youtube at bedtime too, my son loves 3 sleepy owls. The music puts him and me to sleep 😂❤️
