Let’s talk hair growth 🌀
Wash day after a silk press!
To keep my hair healthy and promote growth, l've started focusing on length retention and proper care.
I deep condition every wash day, and I trim my ends about every six weeks to prevent split ends / fairy knots
This time, I used @Aussie Hair USA shampoo and conditioner for cleansing and detangling, followed by the @African Pride deep conditioner to hydrate and strengthen. For my protective style, I did a twist out using @Rizos Curls

It's so frustrating when you feel like your hair just isn't growing, isn't it? I totally get that feeling of being 'bored of my natural' hair because it seems like 'it's not growing' or 'not retaining' length. Many of us mistakenly think our hair has stopped growing entirely, when often, the real issue is a lack of 'retention' due to 'a lot of breakage'. It's like your hair is growing from the root, but the ends are breaking off at the same rate, preventing you from seeing any real progress in length. The key is to prevent that breakage and retain the length you are growing. One major culprit for this invisible growth, especially after things like 'silk presses', can be improper handling and a lack of moisture. When your hair is 'stretched' from heat styling, it can be more vulnerable to damage. It’s crucial to prevent excessive manipulation and ensure proper care during your 'wash day' routine. Think about how you detangle: are you just 'ripping through' it, or are you taking the time to 'finger detangle' first, then 'gently going in with a brush'? This careful approach can make a huge difference in preventing those dreaded fairy knots and split ends that eat away at your length, ultimately helping you prevent your hair from effectively 'not growing' past a certain point. Deep conditioning is another game-changer. My personal experience has shown me that giving my hair that extra boost of hydration and strength, especially after cleansing with something like 'Aussie shampoo', helps keep it resilient. When your strands are strong and moisturized, they're far less likely to snap. Also, incorporating regular trimming, as the article mentions, is essential to snip off those fragile ends before they travel up the hair shaft and cause more damage. Skipping trims can actually 'prevent hair from growing' visibly long because the broken ends just keep splitting. Protective styles, like the 'twist' mentioned for 'my protective style', are fantastic for giving your hair a break from daily manipulation and exposure to elements. This allows your hair to rest and minimizes opportunities for breakage. I'm also conscious of how frequently I alternate 'between styles and silk presses', trying not to overdo heat. Consistency in your routine is vital – it's not a one-time fix. Monitoring your hair's response and being patient, as 'I'm gonna document' my journey, is also key. By understanding and addressing the reasons why your hair might not be retaining length, you can prevent the cycle of breakage and finally achieve the hair growth you desire. It truly helps to see your hair 'stretched' and healthy!
