Toasted Banana Bread Banana’s Foster 🍌
I used Chrissy Teigen’s banana bread recipe (this one got me through 2020 😮💨). I usually add pistachios, but left the nuts out this time because we were taking things to the next level with bananas foster!
Bananas Foster Topping: 🍌 4 bananas 🧈 1/4 cup butter 🤎 2/3 cup brown sugar ✨ 1/2 tsp cinnamon 🌰 pinch of nutmeg (optional) 🧂 pinch of salt 🥃 1/4 cup rum I use @Bayou Rum Distillery 🍦 2 tsp vanilla extract
🥜 1/2 cup crushed pecans
Cook everything down until you’ve got soft, slice bananas how you like, then caramelize, add your rum, then flambé it to cook out that alcohol!
Pour it over your toasted banana bread, ice cream, cheesecake… honestly, whatever you’ve got.
Banana bread didn’t need fixing, but I did it anyway 🤭🍌
Bananas Foster is a classic New Orleans dessert that perfectly complements the mellow sweetness of banana bread. The combination of caramelized bananas and spiced brown sugar syrup creates a warm, comforting flavor profile that elevates any dessert. When I first tried this recipe, I was amazed at how the flambé step deeply enhanced the aroma and flavor by cooking out the alcohol while leaving a subtle rum essence. One tip I’ve learned is to slice the bananas thickly before caramelizing to retain some bite instead of them becoming too mushy. Also, cooking the brown sugar and butter mixture down slowly helps develop a richer caramel base, balancing the sweetness with warm notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. I like adding crushed pecans for a crunchy texture that contrasts the softness of the banana bread. You can customize this topping by using different types of rum or adding a splash of orange liqueur for a citrus twist. This versatile topping isn’t just for banana bread—it’s fantastic over vanilla ice cream, pound cake, or even as a decadent pancake syrup. Plus, using Chrissy Teigen’s banana bread recipe as the base gives you a moist and flavorful loaf that stands up well to the luscious topping. If you’re looking to impress guests or just treat yourself, this toasted banana bread with bananas foster topping is a showstopper that’s surprisingly easy to make. It’s a lovely way to bring a taste of Louisiana’s food culture into your home kitchen.
