Happy Juneteenth ❤️🤍💙
If you're at any type of BBQ today, this Party Punch may very well be in a punch bowl near you!
It shows up at baby showers, church basements, cookouts, family reunions… and somehow always disappears first. And baby, yes, it's sweet! Well, mine wasn't as sweet as it could have been according to my momma. 😂
I've heard it called baby shower punch, church basement punch, just "punch," and about 10 other names depending on who made it.
HOW I MADE IT 🛒
✨ Hawaiian Punch
✨ Pineapple juice
✨ Ginger ale
✨ Sugar (to taste)
Add fruit if you like: pineapple, oranges, strawberries, or whatever you've got on hand. Some folks even add sherbet!
Mix everything together, adjust the sweetness to your liking, and serve ice cold.
What do YOU call this punch in your family?
I’ve found that this type of party punch is a staple at so many gatherings because it’s incredibly versatile and easy to customize. Over the years, I’ve experimented with different fruit combinations—pineapple chunks, orange slices, and even strawberries—to add fresh flavors and vibrant colors to the bowl. Adding sherbet to the punch is a fun twist that turns it into a creamy, dreamy treat that guests absolutely love. One tip I learned from family gatherings is to chill all ingredients thoroughly before mixing and to serve the punch over plenty of ice to keep it cold longer, especially during summer cookouts and Juneteenth celebrations. Adjusting the sugar level is also key; I usually start with a smaller amount because Hawaiian Punch already has natural sweetness, but if you like a sweeter drink like my momma’s version, feel free to add more sugar or even honey. This punch carries a nostalgic feel, often called “church basement punch” or “baby shower punch” depending on where you grew up. It’s fascinating how many names and slight variations exist within families and communities. Whatever you call it, this drink brings people together with its sweet, fruity taste and refreshing fizz. If you want to make it even more special, try adding some fresh mint leaves or a splash of citrus soda for extra zing. It pairs beautifully with classic BBQ dishes and is great for all ages. Next time you’re hosting a family reunion or outdoor party, give this punch a try—I guarantee it will be the first drink to disappear from your table!
