Speak Life
Tonight, I’m watching tv minding my business and a random realization hit me out of nowhere. I started thinking about the common playground phrase, "I cross my heart and hope to die." It’s crazy how we repeat traditions without ever analyzing what they actually mean. As children, we thought it just meant "I promise," but spiritually, it’s inviting premature death and a word curse. Why on earth did we grow up saying, "I cross my heart and hope to die" whenever we made a promise? Who came up with that, and why did we spend our childhoods speaking premature death over ourselves? Thank God for His grace and mercy, because we truly didn't understand what we were saying. But the Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). I was today years old when God really opened my eyes to the weight of those words. Let's stop speaking word curses over our lives, even in jest or out of habit. I am so grateful for God's grace covering my ignorance as a child. Moving forward, I want to be incredibly intentional with my language. I am breaking any agreement with words spoken in ignorance and choosing to align my tongue strictly with God's promises of life, health, and longevity. Speak life…
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, I come before You tonight thanking You for Your grace, Your mercy, and Your revelation. Thank You for opening my eyes to the power of the words I speak. Lord, I ask for forgiveness for any time I have spoken carelessly, or repeated phrases like "cross my heart and hope to die" without understanding their spiritual weight. I repent for any word curses I have inadvertently spoken over my own life, health, or future. Right now, in the mighty name of Jesus, I break the power of those words. I declare that I shall live and not die, and I will declare the works of the Lord. I speak life, protection, and blessing over my mind, body, and spirit. Teach me to guard my tongue and use my words to build up, heal, and honor You.
In Jesus name, Amen
