I’m 26
and everybody swore
this was the age where shit clicks.
Like—
career stable,
heart healed,
bank account grown,
identity laminated and filed.
But I’m standing in the middle of my life
with receipts I can’t return,
dreams half-paid,
and trauma that keeps overdrafting my peace.
I thought by now
I’d be less angry,
less tired,
less worried
or disappointing the kid I used to be.
Instead I’m learning how to breathe
without apologizing.
Learning that healing is loud
and ugly
and doesn’t give a fuck about timelines.
Some days I feel powerful—
like I survived hell
and came back with fire in my chest.
Other days I’m crying in the shower
because I still don’t know
what the fuck I’m doing.
I’ve loved wrong,
trusted too hard,
stayed too long,
walked away too late.
I’ve outgrown people
who swore they’d always know me.
I’ve become unfamiliar
to versions of myself
I thought would last forever.
At 26,
I’m grieving lives I didn’t choose
and forgiving myself
for the ones I didn’t know how to live yet.
I’m not lost—
I’m just in the middle.
In the messy,
in-between,
holy-shit-I’m-still-learning phase.
And maybe that’s the truth nobody tells you:
26 isn’t about having it together.
It’s about realizing
you never were broken—
you were just becoming.
Still figuring shit out.
Still breathing.
Still here.
Navigating your mid-twenties can feel like walking through a fog—sometimes things seem clear, and other times, everything feels uncertain. Financial and career stability are important, but they don't define your worth or success. Focusing on small, personal victories like learning to breathe without apology or forgiving your past mistakes often leads to real progress. It’s a continuous process of becoming, not a destination.
