Microlocs Comb Out after 1.8 Years

I have been on this journey for 1.8 years. I never intended to have microlocs in for a long time. My plan initially was for 5 years. That way I can grow long hair then take them down. I changed my mind and did what my heart was telling me. I honestly miss my loose natural hair. I installed my own Microlocs it took me three days to do so. I also did my own reties with the interlocking tool. I have grown six inches of hair, I installed them at eleven inches now I have seventeen inches. This process can take 4-12 months depending on how much I comb out a month. I will commit to taking out 1 a day. Combing out 1 Microloc can take 1 hour. It’s important to be gentle and use the right products and tools to avoid less breakage and retain your length. Cutting my hair is not an option. Patience is my only option. I installed them part by part, twist by twist, so I can take them down loc by loc, day by day🫶🏾❤️. Locs are absolutely beautiful and I adore them. Locs can signify growth, love, care, spirituality, a journey, etc.. so much more that can’t be described in words. I personally would not get locs again because I do not like that they trap smells easily, the product build up, possible thinning, marrying, lack of a thorough wash ( individual strands ),etc…. Your hair is beautiful, always do what’s best for you and your hair just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. I am my hair! We always say I’m not my hair when we don’t like what it does or the current state that it’s in. Our hair holds energy feed your hair positive energy, patience, time, tender love and care, etc… so it will reward you based on how you take care of it. The opposite also is a possibility if you handle your hair negatively, have bad habits, and or certain people or spirits touch your crown 👑 your hair will react negatively. Please remember to always love on yourself and embrace and practice Selfcare in your own special way! Thank you for reading and engaging with my post!#microlocs #microlocsjourney #fyp #naturalhairstyles #locs

... Read moreDeciding to embark on a microlocs journey is a significant step, and understanding the entire process—from installation to potential removal—is key. While my original post focused on the comb-out, many of you might be curious about what it's like to live with microlocs and what to expect during their growth and styling phases. The Microlocs Journey: What to Expect Once you’ve installed your beautiful dark microlocs, whether you choose DIY like I did or go to a professional, the real journey begins. Initially, your hair will be in what's known as the Starter Stage (typically 0-6 months). During this time, your microlocs might feel quite loose, and you'll experience a fair bit of frizz. This is normal as your hair learns to 'loc' up. For those with starter short micro locs styles, patience is your best friend! Gentle handling and minimal manipulation are crucial to prevent unraveling. Regular reties, which I did myself using an interlocking tool, help maintain their structure as they mature. Next comes the Budding Stage (around 6-12 months), where your hair begins to knot and form small buds within the locs. They might look a bit 'messy' but it’s a sign of progress! This is when you really see the transformation from loose, twisted hair to actual locs. As your hair continues its journey, you'll enter the Locking Stage (1-2 years), where the locs become more solid and dense. Finally, the Mature Stage (2+ years) means your locs are fully formed, strong, and ready for anything. I personally saw significant microlocs growth, going from 11 to 17 inches in length during my 1.8 years. Styling Your Microlocs: Embrace the Versatility One of the joys of microlocs is their versatility. Even with medium microlocs styles, you have so many options! From elegant updos and messy buns (like the voluminous bun seen in some images) to braids and twists, your microlocs can be styled in countless ways. I loved experimenting with different looks, and having my dark, curly hair in microlocs truly offered a unique canvas. It's a common query, 'microlocs styles,' and for good reason – they truly allow for creative expression, whether you prefer them free-flowing or meticulously arranged. Choosing Microlocs: A Quick Comparison Many people weigh options before committing, often asking about 'microlocs vs sisterlocks pictures.' While both are small, intricate locs, Sisterlocks are typically installed by trained consultants using a specific tool and grid pattern, often being much smaller. Microlocs, on the other hand, can be installed with various methods like braids, twists, or interlocks, and can be DIY. Some even opt for 'instant microlocs' where a crochet needle is used to create immediate locking, skipping the initial budding phase. Whatever your choice, it's about what suits your lifestyle and hair goals. Throughout my journey, I learned the importance of proper maintenance. While I mentioned some downsides like product buildup and smells in my original post, these can often be mitigated with the right routine. Light, residue-free products and regular clarifying washes help keep your scalp healthy and your locs clean. Just like any natural hairstyle, microlocs require tender love and care to thrive. Remember, your hair is amazing, and whether you choose to loc it up or keep it loose, always do what feels right for you!
