Blue collar farm worker
I work on a potato seed farm in Minnesota. I am full-time seasonal. I absolutely love it and wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’ve learned so much working in this field and had been able to give my thoughts and opinions. One of the things I love about it is I’m so tech savvy they come to me to fix the iPads or use the new devices. We get to try new things out as technology is taking over the world. It is the same in the farming industry. But this is what I do and this is who I am. My dad is the assistant manager my bonus. Mom is the office administrator. My fiancé is the field boss and recently his little brother has joined to work in the yard alongside me.

Whether it’s marking yard tools with a personal touch or outfitting trailers with welded steps, these details create a sense of ownership and pride. Farming also means embracing challenges, like cleaning heavy equipment borrowed from other farms or handling tough weather conditions. A memorable moment for me was discovering a little frog and placing it gently on my shoulder — a small reminder of the natural environment that surrounds us daily. Test digs and sample potato sacks form a crucial part of ensuring quality and yield. Recording data accurately helps improve farming practices season after season. This work environment cultivates not only agricultural skills but also problem-solving and adaptability.
