子どもの言葉の発達でよく見られる現象の一つに、単語は増えているのに会話がうまく続かないということがあります。私自身、子どもと日々接している中で気づいたのは、「単語を教える」ことと「会話の土台を育てる」ことは別物であるという点です。言語聴覚士の現場でも「積み木理論」と呼ばれるように、言葉のやり取りの前にまずは子どもが安心して楽しくやり取りできる環境を作ることが重要なのです。 具体的な家庭での取り組みとして、くすぐり遊びのようなジェスチャーを引き出す遊びは、子どもに「間合い」や「模倣」の感覚を育てます。例えば、『こちょこちょ』とくすぐったあとに一旦止めて、「もう一回？」と指で合図を送ることで、子どもは反応して相手に伝えたい気持ちを持つようになります。これは言葉を使う前の非言語コミュニケーションを促す大切なステップです。 さらに、古いスマホやおもちゃ電話を使った役割遊びは、親子間のやり取りを楽しいものと感じさせ、会話のイメージを具体的に体験させることができます。親が「もしもし、パパ？」と声かけし、子どもが返答する中で、相手がいる設定を理解しやり取りの楽しさを学びます。 私の経験から言うと、言葉の数ばかりに焦点を当てるのではなく、まずは親子が笑い合い、楽しい時間を共に過ごすことが、やり取りの土台を育てる最大の栄養だと感じています。焦って「教えなきゃ」となりがちな方も多いですが、しばらくは「引き出す遊び」を通じて、子どもの反応や喜びを見守ることが大切です。 このような細やかな積み重ねが、自然と単語が会話に繋がる基盤を作っていくのです。悩みや不安を感じている方は、無理せず子どものペースに合わせながら、ぜひ今日からご家庭で試してみてください。子育ての小さな工夫が、会話の楽しさを増やし、親子関係をより豊かにしてくれます。
