子供が言葉をなかなか話さないと感じると、つい「どう話しかければいいの？」と焦りがちですよね。しかし、私も同じように悩んだ親の一人として、言葉は無理に教え込むのではなく、環境を整えて自然に育てていくことが大切だと実感しています。 私が実践して効果を感じたのは、子供の動きを実況することです。例えば「積木を積めたね！」と具体的に動作を言葉にしてあげると、子供は自分の行動に言葉がリンクしやすくなります。単に「上手」と褒めるより、動きと音（擬音語）を一致させるのもポイントです。 また、子供の言葉に対して「プラスワン」することで会話が広がります。例えば、「ブーブー！」と言ったら「赤いブーブーだね！」と一単語足すだけで十分。長い文を急いで教える必要はなく、焦らず一単語ずつ増やしていくことで負担を減らせました。 質問も「これは何？」というクイズ形式ではなく、「どっちがいい？」など子供が選択できる質問に変えると、子供の考える時間を尊重できます。声かけの後には必ず５秒間待つ時間を作り、子供がじっくり言葉を選ぶ時間を与えると、自発的に話そうとする姿勢が見えてきました。 さらに、子供の感情に言葉を代弁することで、「楽しい」「悔しい」など心の動きを認め、言葉にする力を育てることも効果的です。このように少しの工夫と待つ時間を意識するだけで、親子のコミュニケーションはぐっと楽になります。 これら５つのポイントは、言語聴覚士としてのプロの知見と、3児の母としての実体験から導き出されたもの。焦らず、子供のペースに寄り添いながら「言葉の種まき」を続けることが、結果的に言葉の成長を促す最良の方法です。ぜひ今日から取り入れて、親子で楽しい会話の時間を増やしてみてくださいね。
