20 Mins Wait for Matcha Kaki… Was It Worth It? šŸ‘€šŸµ

Went down to Tampines pasar malam to finally try the viral Matcha Kaki that’s been over my fyp šŸ‘€āœØ

Here’s my honest review:

Waited around 20 mins for my drinks (which i think with the volume they have, it’s a reasonable wait). I ordered their Sea Salt Cream Matcha & Horlicks Matcha with the add on of Banana Pudding!

Personally found the drinks a little diluted after 5–8 mins collecting them, with the matcha flavour quite faint and the sea salt foam being nice on its own, but once mixed in, it tasted quite light. Horlicks version was the one that disappointed me as I love Horlicks, but when I tasted it, it was almost… non existent 😭😭😭 i drank big and tiny sips, constantly stirring it just to bring out that taste of Horlick… to only get diluted matcha 😢 felt like I was drinking ice water with little matcha taste (&& i’m surprised since it was one of their recommendations!!!)

Banana pudding leaned more on cream than banana, so the flavour was not as strong as I expected and there were only about 2-3 banana bits that I tasted in the pudding so again, this surprised me after seeing big pieces being served on their videos and having to try it irl 🄺

For context, I once tried Sweedy’s Matcha Banana Pudding and it was life changing šŸ˜ thick, creamy, and packed with flavour so maybe I have some form of comparison on how I thought it should taste like 🄹 But of course, this might just be a preference thing, but I personally prefer that strong, rich matcha taste rather than a faint hint.

Price wise, it was $8.50 for a large cup, which I would say it’s pretty close to a Starbucks drink so you do the math!

That being said, maybe they were tired, overwhelmed with the amount of people waiting but I really do admire the young founders for their hustle and great concept on this matcha craze šŸ™Œ and their marketing was good that it created this hype.

However, will I queue and wait for 20–30 mins again? Probably not. 🄲 But if there’s no line, I’d definitely be open to giving other items on their menu a try! šŸ’š

... Read moreFor those curious about Tampines Oval Cafe's matcha offerings or other matcha stalls nearby, it’s important to consider the variety available and the consistency of flavor. Many matcha lovers seek a rich, strong matcha punch, which this place struggles to deliver consistently, especially when drinks sit for a few minutes. If you’re exploring pasar malam matcha stalls or searching for the best matcha near you, consider trying smaller portions first or visiting during off-peak hours to possibly avoid dilution from melting ice. Also, different matcha blends on the menu, like classic or brown sugar matcha, might offer a better balance for those craving deeper flavors. Adding pudding to your drink can add texture, but as I discovered, the banana pudding here was more creamy than banana-flavored and contained fewer fruit bits than anticipated. If you love strong, flavorful add-ons, it may be worth trying other toppings or looking at vendors who showcase bigger fruit pieces. When comparing to other popular places like Sweedy’s, known for thick and flavour-packed banana pudding, it’s clear that personal taste and expectations heavily influence satisfaction with matcha drinks. For fans of Horlicks Matcha, beware that not all versions carry the expected boldness. Stirring helps, but it may not bring back the rich horlicks flavor. Price-wise, $8.50 for a large cup is close to what you’d spend at Starbucks, so weigh whether the uniqueness of this matcha concept justifies the cost for you. The savvy marketing and youthful energy behind Matcha Kaki at Tampines Pasar Malam create buzz, but they might still have room to improve on flavor and consistency. In summary, if there’s no long queue and you want to try a new twist on matcha, definitely give it a shot. But if you’re after a consistently strong matcha or horlicks taste, you might want to explore other matcha stalls around Causeway Point or The Matcha Haven menu offerings. Let your taste buds be your guide on which spot satisfies your matcha cravings best!
