When starting out UGC, you will come across a lot of terms that you may have never heard of before. I remember when I first started out I did! Here are a couple of important terms you should know when starting out: ✨Deliverables – the quantity and type of content needed to complete the collab
✨Exclusivity- the amount of time you are NOT allowed to create for competing brands
✨Inbound vs outbound (pitching and catching) Inbound- when a brand contacts you Outbound – when you reach out to a brand
✨Revision / reshoot - after sending your content to be approved, they might request an edit or re-shoot. -Make sure to agree on the amount of revisions in the contract before hand -Industry standard = 1-2 revisions included in price
✨Usage rights - who owns the deliverables and what they're allowed to do with it while they own them.
✨In perpetuity - you release the rights to own your content forever. The brand can do what they want to your content, when they want to, FOREVER!

User-generated content (UGC) has become increasingly popular as brands recognize the power of authentic customer voices. As a newcomer to this realm, understanding important industry terminology is essential for a successful start. In addition to deliverables and exclusivity, familiarize yourself with the nuances of inbound and outbound pitching. Inbound refers to brands reaching out to creators, while outbound involves creators initiating contact. Choosing the right approach can enhance collaboration opportunities. Furthermore, it's crucial to communicate clearly about revisions and reshoots, ensuring that both you and your partner agree on expectations before commencing projects. Understanding usage rights is also vital; this determines how brands can utilize your content, which can have long-term implications for your work. Lastly, be cautious of 'in perpetuity' clauses, as they grant brands indefinite rights to your work. As you navigate the world of UGC, being well-versed in these terms will not only enhance your professionalism but also position you for success in this exciting and evolving industry.
