📖 Book I Didn’t Know I Needed (but healed me)

As women, we’re emotional — and for me, that was always magnified.

I was quiet growing up. I had learning disabilities, and a lot of people misunderstood me.

They didn’t understand my words… but they understood my reaction when enough was enough.

I never wanted to be labeled the “troubled child”

or grow into the adult who lets emotions lead them somewhere they can’t come back from.

What this book helped me realize is something powerful:

✨ Just like you can be taught the wrong way, you can train your mind the right way.

Your brain is a muscle.

What you think, you strengthen.

What you practice, you become.

This book breaks down how your thoughts influence your emotions and how to retrain your mind instead of being controlled by it. It gave me language, understanding, and peace I didn’t know I was missing.

If you grew up misunderstood…

If you’ve ever felt like your emotions were “too much”…

If you’re unlearning survival mode as an adult…

This one is worth the read.

🫖 Read slow. Reflect often. Be gentle with yourself. #BookRec

... Read moreMany of us struggle with navigating intense emotions, often feeling overwhelmed or misunderstood, especially if we grew up with learning difficulties or in environments that didn’t validate our feelings. The powerful lesson that "your brain is a muscle" emphasizes that just like physical fitness, emotional resilience and mental strength can be developed through intentional practice. This principle aligns well with the psychology behind cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which teaches individuals to recognize and reshape negative thought patterns that influence emotional responses. Research supports the idea that what we focus on shapes our mental landscape. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote "You become what you think about all day long" highlights the impact of sustained attention on our identity and feelings. Success expert Brian Tracy echoes this, advising to focus on desires rather than fears to cultivate a positive mindset. This understanding can help readers reprogram their minds away from survival mode—a state where the brain is constantly on alert—toward calmer, more constructive ways of thinking. Moreover, meditation is another proven tool for mastering emotions. Known for calming the "monkey mind," meditation heightens awareness of fleeting thoughts and reduces their control over us. Buddhist philosophy regarding the restless mind as a monkey swinging through trees reminds us of the importance of mindfulness. Employing such practices can give individuals space between thought and reaction, fostering emotional regulation and healing. For those who have grown up feeling "too emotional" or misunderstood, this book offers valuable language and insights to reinterpret their experiences. It encourages gentle self-reflection and patience while learning to consciously retrain thought patterns that previously fueled emotional turmoil. By providing clear, practical steps, it becomes a guide to transforming overwhelming emotions into sources of strength and self-awareness. In essence, mastering emotions is a skill anyone can develop with practice. Integrating thoughtful reading with mindful reflection, as suggested by the author, enables sustained growth. If you’re on a journey to better manage feelings and cultivate inner peace, this book is a worthy companion to help unlock that potential.
