AYA - How did you find out you were pregnant?

I found on Christmas of 2024. I was having symptoms and my period was over a month late. I have pretty irregular periods sometimes and I will go a month or two missing it. So at first, I really thought it was just that.

I told my sister what was going on and she said to take a pregnancy test. Mind you, I had already tested negative.

I decide screw it and take another test. Lo and behold, it was positive! I stared at it. Called my husband in the bathroom and said, “What the heck am I supposed to do with this?!” 😂

It was not planned and it was a total Christmas surprise. Two days later my grandpa in Uruguay fell into a coma. He had many health issues. I decided to tell my family. I called my uncle to bring the message to my grandpa.

He told me he did. After he told him for me that I was pregnant, he passed. I always say my grandpa sent me my daughter. What’s funny is her birthday is August 2nd and his was August 8th. She was meant to be born later in August but I had to be induced.

Finding out I was pregnant was filled with many emotions.

But I have a beautiful baby girl. She loves holding my finger or hand. 🥹

How did you find out you were pregnant? What were you feeling?

... Read moreDiscovering pregnancy can be a mix of confusion, surprise, and a whirlwind of emotions—especially when periods are irregular and symptoms overlap with everyday life. Many women, like the author, notice a late or missed period and suspect nothing at first, particularly if their cycles have always been unpredictable. It's quite common to initially dismiss a missed period as irregularity or stress rather than early pregnancy, which is why taking a pregnancy test more than once can be crucial when symptoms persist. Pregnancy tests can sometimes give false negatives if taken too early or incorrectly. The advice to retake the test after a few days of a missed period is a smart step, as hormone levels increase and become more detectable. When the positive test emerges unexpectedly—especially during special times like Christmas—it can lead to mixed feelings of joy, uncertainty, and even anxiety about what's next. Aside from the initial shock, sharing the news with close family or partners can be an emotional milestone. This story beautifully shows how pregnancy can coincide with other life events, like the unfortunate passing of a grandparent, adding complexity to the emotional journey. The connection between loved ones lives on through the new baby, symbolized here by the close birthdays and meaningful timing. Bonding with a newborn, as described in the story, is incredibly touching. Simple moments, such as a baby holding a finger, highlight the depth of love and connection that pregnancy brings, even when unplanned. It’s important to acknowledge every pregnancy experience as unique and to offer support to one another through sharing these personal stories. If you’re unsure whether you’re pregnant or dealing with irregular cycles, consider tracking your symptoms, consulting a healthcare provider, and connecting with support groups. Many find comfort in asking “How did you find out you were pregnant?” and hearing different personal experiences. Sharing these narratives not only provides reassurance but also helps build a community where joy and concerns are openly expressed.
