I have met a fewof my online friends in person AMA

I have always had online friends since the Fandom days back in 2012. I was apart of tons of fandom groups. I went to a Disney springs meetup for one of our groups. It was so cool getting to meet everyone. We all went to lunch. It’s neat seeing us all grown up and updating here and there now!

My two best friends I’ve always had though are still in my life. My female bestie was my maid of honor. She flew down to FL from NJ. I actually met her when I was in NY driving back down to FL with my dad. I asked him if we could stop by her house since it was on the way. He said sure and we went. It was raining and it was so fun. It was quick but it was awesome! Then we spent lots of time together while she was down here for my wedding.

My male best friend flew down to spend Thanksgiving with us a few years back. He also flew down for my wedding! He lives in Canada.

Both besties and I talk everyday. What’s funny is that they too ended up becoming friends. It’s so great.

Ask me anything!! I love talking about my online friends and how I got to meet them. It’s always such a cool experience! I’ve met many others too.

Do any of you have online friends you’ve met?

... Read moreMeeting online friends in person is truly a unique experience that many people cherish deeply. Over the years, online friendships have grown from simple chats and shared interests into meaningful, lifelong bonds. Whether you met through fandom communities, gaming, social media, or other online groups, taking that step to meet face-to-face can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. One of the cool things about meeting online friends is getting to see the person behind the screen, realizing that shared interests often translate into great conversations and genuine connections in real life. For example, attending a meetup at a place like Disney Springs offers a casual and fun environment where everyone can relax, bond over shared fandoms, and create new memories beyond the virtual space. Traveling to meet friends is another special aspect of these relationships. From spontaneous stops during road trips to flying across states or countries, the effort to meet someone in person highlights the value of that friendship. Events like weddings and holiday celebrations emphasize how these online connections have become integral parts of our lives, often rivaling or even surpassing traditional friendships. A funny and beautiful outcome is when online friends become close enough to form friendships with each other too, creating a supportive community. Consistent communication, even daily chats, can keep these connections vibrant and meaningful despite physical distances. For those wondering about meeting their own online friends, it’s often helpful to plan meetups in public places or group settings, ensuring comfort and safety. The shared background from online conversations usually makes the first in-person meeting feel less awkward and more like a continuation of an existing relationship. Ultimately, meeting online friends in person illustrates how digital platforms can foster deep, authentic relationships. It's not just about the initial connection but how those friendships evolve and enrich our lives. Have you had a chance to meet your online friends? Share your stories and questions as this community celebrates the joy of connecting beyond the screen.
