Let’s make flan! 🍮

Soooooo … let’s make flan. The easy way. I used this box of premade mix for my flan. Simply because I have a teething 8mo old and am so limited on time. 🤣

For the record, I made it on the stovetop. You can also do it with the microwave.

Ingredients you’ll need;

- Goya flan mix

- 2 cups milk

- 1/4 cup of sugar

Optional:

- Dulce de leche

Directions:

1) Add 1/4 cup sugar to heavy saucepan over medium high heat. Cook without stirring. Wait for sugar to melt and turn dark golden brown.

Note; This will burn so quickly if you don’t keep a close eye on it. I know from experience. So please, don’t do what I did and walk away! 😭

2) Carefully pour caramel into a 2-cup mold or evenly among 4 1/2 cup molds. Set aside.

Note; I’m working with what I have. I could have used a small cake mold but let’s not talk about how I burnt my caramel in it. 🤣 Like I said, don’t be me!!! I used my cupcake molds to make little cup shaped flans.

3) Add 2 cups of milk to a saucepan over medium high heat. Using a whisk, gradually stir in contents of the package.

4) Bring the milk mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. The mixture will be thin. Stir for about 5 minutes.

5) Pour the mixture into prepared molds.

6) Cover and refrigerate until they’re firm.

Enjoy! You can loosen the flan from the molds by running a thin knife around the edges.

I always love to add dulce de leche on top of mine. I didn’t have it in this case but normally I would! 🙂‍↕️

... Read moreMaking flan from a premade mix like Goya is a fantastic shortcut when time is tight, especially if you have little ones demanding your attention like an 8-month-old teething baby! One thing I’ve learned from my experience is that watching the sugar carefully while caramelizing is crucial — it can go from perfectly golden to burnt in seconds if you get distracted. A good tip is to keep a bowl of ice water nearby so you can quickly cool down your pan if it overheats. Another handy trick for serving is to use small molds, like cupcake tins, to make individual-sized flans. This not only speeds up the cooling process in the fridge but also looks adorable and is perfect for portion control. When your flan is set and ready, gently running a thin knife around the edges helps pop it out cleanly without breaking the delicate custard. For those looking to elevate the flavor, adding a spoonful of dulce de leche on top adds a rich, caramelized sweetness that beautifully complements the creamy texture. If you don’t have dulce de leche at home, you can create a quick version by simmering sweetened condensed milk until it thickens and turns golden brown. The stovetop method is straightforward, but if you’re really pressed for time, using the microwave can save even more minutes—just be sure to stir frequently to prevent curdling or uneven cooking. Whether you’re making this dessert for a casual family treat or a special occasion, this recipe balances convenience and taste to fit your lifestyle perfectly.
