Boundaries and parenting

Why we don’t let our kids sleep in our bed — well, because they’re all teens now, haha.

But seriously, the key word is “constantly” sleeping in your bed. It’s not good for your marriage or your kids.

Are they sick, scared, or need to once in a while?!? Absolutely — we get it, ours were toddlers once too. ❤️ But if you talk to experts on this topic, consistently letting them sleep with you is not beneficial for anyone in the long run.

Date night every week. Why? Because we fell in love dating. And when we stopped dating, our marriage took a back burner. So at year 12, we decided that date night is non-negotiable. Our marriage coming first benefits everyone in the home.

When you give your kids a loving and happy home environment, they thrive.

Alone time and quality time at night should be mandatory for every couple who wants a passionate marriage. Any spouse who has screen time on their phone at night has time to cuddle, talk, and be intimate.

We never let our kids divide us.

Never. We came first. If we disagree on something, we tell our kids, “We’ll be back,” and we go talk about it as a couple first, so we are united in our decisions. Letting your kids manipulate or divide you as parents creates disconnection in the entire home.

The respect part… If they are disrespectful, we kindly say, “You can come back when you’re more positive and kind, and then we can talk about it. We as parents deserve to be respected just like we respect each other and we respect you.”

Is it okay for them to be upset or frustrated? Absolutely! But you can still be respectful even when you're upset.

And showing your kids this through how you treat each other is one of the best ways to create more peace and harmony in your home.

If you want happy, loving, thriving kids now and in their future, putting your marriage first is the best gift you can give them.

And it has nothing to do with how much time you spend — of course kids take more “time”! But it is about making your marriage the foundation.

We have even recorded a couple podcast episodes on what this looks like if you want to dig deeper into what this actually looks like.

... Read moreMaintaining a balanced relationship while raising children can be challenging. It’s essential to set boundaries that not only nurture your marriage but also foster a supportive environment for your kids. Experts suggest that letting children sleep in your bed regularly may negatively impact family dynamics and marital satisfaction. Establishing a dedicated couple's time is crucial—weekly date nights allow parents to reconnect and reinforce their partnership. Involving children in a respectful dialogue teaches them valuable lessons about boundaries and respect. When parents demonstrate unity in their decisions, it cultivates a sense of security and harmony in the home. Moreover, ensuring that children understand the importance of respectful communication helps them develop strong relational skills for their future. Encouraging independent sleep habits and prioritizing couple's time strengthens marital bonds, benefitting the entire family. This holistic approach involves nurturing both your partnership and your child's emotional well-being, ensuring they feel loved and secure within a healthy family structure.
