I hate airports…when I’m not working

2025/1/12 Edited to

... Read moreIt’s a universally acknowledged truth for many of us: airports can be incredibly stressful places. As someone who's spent a fair amount of time navigating terminals, both for work and leisure, I've come to realize it's not just one thing, but a whole cocktail of factors that contributes to that overwhelming feeling. Why are airports so stressful? Let me break down my personal take on it, because I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. First off, there's the sheer lack of control. You're constantly at the mercy of airline schedules, security lines, and gate changes. Will your flight be delayed? Will you make your connection? These uncertainties create a low hum of anxiety that can turn into full-blown panic. I remember one time, the departure board kept flashing 'delayed' without an estimated new time – the not knowing was far worse than simply being told it was pushed back a few hours. Then there are the crowds and the noise. Airports are bustling hubs, often filled with thousands of people, each with their own agenda, anxieties, and sometimes, screaming children (no judgment, we've all been there!). The constant announcements, the clatter of luggage, the chatter of voices – it’s an assault on the senses. For someone like me who values a bit of calm, it can be truly draining. Finding a quiet corner feels like hitting the jackpot. Time pressure is another huge culprit. We’re often racing against the clock, whether it’s getting through security, finding our gate, or making sure we don't miss our boarding call. This urgency can strip away any joy from the start of a trip. I've learned that arriving earlier than you think you need to can be a game-changer. That extra hour to grab a coffee, browse a shop, or just people-watch can make all the difference in calming those pre-flight jitters. And let's not forget the logistics. Parking, navigating terminals, dealing with baggage claim – it's a marathon before you even get on the plane. Plus, the cost of everything from airport food to unexpected baggage fees can add another layer of financial stress. I once paid $15 for a sad-looking sandwich because I was starving and had no other options – definitely not a stress-reducer! Finally, and this ties into my own recent experiences, it's about travel styles, especially when you're with someone. It’s not just the external factors; sometimes, even traveling with 'your boyfriend' can add to the stress if you have different travel philosophies. Is he an 'eyes on the gate' kind of guy, always rushing and wanting to be at the gate hours early, while you prefer a more relaxed approach, maybe enjoying a pre-flight meal or a quick browse through duty-free? This clash can create friction and unnecessary tension. I've found that open communication beforehand about expectations can really help. Are we rushing, or are we taking our time? What’s the plan for food? These small conversations can prevent big frustrations. Ultimately, understanding why airports feel so stressful can help us manage that feeling. For me, it’s about anticipating these challenges and finding small ways to regain a sense of control and calm. Whether it’s packing a good book, downloading a podcast, or simply reminding myself that the stress is temporary and the adventure awaits, a little preparation goes a long way in making airport days less of a dread and more of a tolerable transition.

Working 40–60 hours a week should not be your only plan.
A lot of women are not trying to quit because they are lazy. They are tired. Tired of working 40–60 hours a week. Tired of having no backup plan. Tired of depending on one income. Tired of feeling burnt out but still needing more freedom. That’s why I talk about digital income. Not b

Do you REALLY hate working? Or is THIS the reason?
Sometimes, it’s not that you hate working, it’s that you might not like your job, have external factors that prevent you from enjoying your work, or even that you’re just not where you want to be in your career. For me, ever since graduating college I’ve struggled with the idea of working, not b
