PEACE or PIECES??
It's a tough pill to swallow when people you care about, or even just those in your life, let you down so profoundly that you feel like you've been shattered into a million pieces. I've been there more times than I'd like to admit. That gut-wrenching feeling of being 'left in pieces' by someone else's actions or words can be incredibly isolating and painful. But through my own journey, I've come to understand a powerful truth: the most enduring peace comes from within. You truly have to learn to be your own peace, especially when the world around you feels chaotic. It's tempting to seek validation, comfort, or even resolution from those who caused the hurt. However, depending on external sources for your inner calm is like building a house on sand – it's unstable. My biggest takeaway has been realizing that my peace is my responsibility, not anyone else's. So, how do you cultivate that unshakeable inner peace when others leave you feeling broken? Here’s a quick and simple message of what has truly helped me: First, acknowledge your feelings without judgment. It's okay to be sad, angry, confused, or hurt. For a long time, I tried to push these feelings away, thinking it would make them disappear. But they always came back stronger. Now, I give myself permission to feel them, to sit with them for a bit, and then gently release them. This process is part of embracing vulnerability, which I've found incredibly healing. Second, set firm boundaries. This was a game-changer for me. When someone consistently disrupts your peace, you have the right to limit their access to your energy and time. It's not about being mean; it's about self-preservation. Learning to say 'no' or to step away from toxic situations has been a powerful act of self-love. It protects your peace proactively. Third, prioritize radical self-care. When I felt like I was in pieces, my first instinct was to neglect myself. But that's precisely when you need self-care the most. This isn't just about bubble baths; it's about what truly nourishes your soul. For me, it's spending time in nature, reading a good book, listening to music, or even just having a quiet cup of tea. Find what recharges you and make it non-negotiable. Fourth, reconnect with your core values and passions. When others try to define your worth or happiness, it's easy to lose sight of who you are. I started asking myself, 'What truly makes me happy, regardless of anyone else?' Diving back into hobbies I loved or rediscovering what truly mattered to me helped me rebuild my identity and remember my inherent strength. Finally, remember that building your own peace is an ongoing practice, not a destination. There will be days when you feel wobbly, and that's perfectly normal. The key is to keep returning to these practices, to gently guide yourself back to your center. It’s about being unapologetically committed to your own well-being. This journey has shown me that even when others scatter my emotional 'pieces,' I always have the power to gather them, mend them, and emerge even stronger, carrying my own beautiful peace within me.
