America’s most haunted hotel

2025/1/19 Edited to

... Read moreAmerica's Most Haunted Hotel" – that phrase alone sends shivers down my spine! I've always been fascinated by the supernatural, and the idea of spending a night in a place teeming with resident spirits is both terrifying and exhilarating. When people ask about the absolute "most haunted" spot in the U.S., it's tough to pick just one, as many historic hotels boast incredible, chilling tales. But if I had to point to a truly iconic contender, one that consistently comes up in paranormal discussions and even inspired legendary horror, it would have to be The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. This grand hotel isn't just famous for its majestic Rocky Mountain views; it's practically synonymous with hauntings. Built by Freelan Oscar Stanley in 1909, it’s said that the spirits of its founders and many former guests still roam its halls. My personal interest spiked when I learned it was the inspiration for Stephen King's "The Shining" – how could a place that spooky not be genuinely haunted? Many visitors and staff members report a wide array of paranormal activities. The fourth floor is particularly active, often echoing with the playful sounds of children's laughter, even when no kids are around. Room 217 is notorious; it was where Stephen King himself stayed, and guests there have experienced everything from luggage unpacking itself to objects moving on their own. Elizabeth Wilson, a former head housekeeper, is believed to be the resident ghost, still attending to her duties from beyond the grave. Then there's the concert hall, where F.O. Stanley's wife, Flora, is said to play the piano, her melodies drifting through the building even when no one is seated at the keys. I've heard countless tales of cold spots, disembodied voices, and shadowy figures glimpsed out of the corner of an eye. Getting to experience a ghost tour here is a must – they share incredible stories that make you question everything. Of course, the Stanley isn't the only contender for America's most haunted. The Crescent Hotel & Spa in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, often called "America's Most Haunted Hotel," has a dark past as a hospital run by a charlatan doctor, which contributes to its eerie reputation. Guests often report seeing nurses, patients, and even a playful cat ghost. The Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, a grand ocean liner turned hotel, is another hotspot, with over 150 documented spirits, including a "Lady in White" and a child who drowned in the pool. And who could forget the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, linked to the mysterious death of Kate Morgan in 1892, whose spirit is said to remain? If you're planning a visit to any of these legendary haunted locations, here's my advice: go with an open mind, but also be respectful. These are historic places, and while the thrill of a paranormal encounter is exciting, remember the stories often involve real people. Bring a good camera, maybe a voice recorder, and definitely prepare for some goosebumps! Even if you don't encounter a full-blown apparition, the atmosphere, history, and incredible tales alone make these destinations unforgettable. It's a journey into history, mystery, and the unexplained that truly makes you wonder what lies beyond.
