the weird stuff worked first 👇

i used to try logic when my anxiety hit. i would explain to myself why nothing was wrong and then wonder why my body still felt scared.

what helped was giving my body something to do before asking my mind to calm down. hum. shake. breathe slower. feel the floor. write the sentence.

the strange part is that the body usually believes repetition before it believes words. so i stopped treating grounding like a cute wellness trick and started using it as a real practice.

start building a grounding ritual for the moments when your body is scared before your brain knows why.

... Read moreWhen anxiety strikes, it often feels like your body is betraying you—your mind might tell you there’s nothing wrong, but your body remains tense and on alert. From personal experience, I found that logical reassurance alone doesn’t settle the nervous system. Instead, engaging in simple physical actions before trying to calm your thoughts is key. One method that truly transformed my anxiety management was adopting grounding rituals rooted in nervous system regulation. For example, humming while doing routine tasks sends calming vibrations that signal safety to your body, often before your brain registers calm. Shaking your hands or limbs helps release the muscle tension that accumulates during stress, almost like physically shaking off the anxiety trapped in your body. Another powerful technique is the combination of touch and breath—placing one hand on your heart and another on your belly while taking slow, deep breaths connects you to the present moment. It grounds your nervous system more effectively than verbal affirmations alone. Feeling the floor beneath your feet by pressing down firmly grounds your sense of presence, giving your brain physical proof that you are safe. Lastly, verbalizing or writing down the affirmation "I'm safe right now" helps externalize and process fear. Even if your body initially resists, the repetition helps retrain your nervous system over time. Integrating these nervous system hacks into a regular grounding practice, rather than viewing them as mere wellness tips, can significantly reduce anxiety episodes. By nourishing the body’s need for sensory feedback, you empower both body and mind to find calm together, creating a holistic approach to mental health and nervous system regulation.
