Unfortunately my characters maynot be as interesting as others🫩✌️

As an artist and creator, delving into the world of Original Characters (OCs) is incredibly rewarding. You pour your heart into their backstories, personalities, and designs, meticulously crafting every detail to fit your vision – that's what we call 'Canon.' But then there's 'Fanon,' and oh boy, that's where things get wild and wonderfully unpredictable! For anyone new to these terms, 'Canon' refers to all the established facts, character traits, and story elements as determined by the original creator. It's the official truth of your OC. 'Fanon,' on the other hand, is born from fan interpretations, headcanons, theories, and alternative takes that aren't officially recognized but are widely shared or imagined by the community. It's truly fascinating to see how your OCs can take on a life of their own in the minds of others. I've seen it firsthand with my own characters. Take, for instance, my OC who I envisioned as a charming, if a bit mischievous, 'frat boy' type. In my canon, he's got a lean build and a friendly smile. But in fanon? He transformed into a rugged 'bad boy,' often depicted smoking and with a 'jacked' physique! It’s a complete shift, but honestly, it makes you wonder about the possibilities. Another one of my OCs, who I created as a 'huge nerd' with a lot of hidden insecurities and 'deep self-hatred,' was re-imagined in fanon as an 'incel' or 'pervert' with poor hygiene. While sometimes jarring, these interpretations highlight how different aspects of a character can be amplified or even distorted by an outside perspective. It’s a good reminder that not every detail translates perfectly, and sometimes fans fill in the blanks in unexpected ways. Similarly, my 'shy but sociable' OC, who I drew on the 'chubbier side,' became a 'skinny J-Pop STAN' in fanon – a complete visual and personality overhaul! It’s not always about making them darker or more extreme, either. Sometimes a 'sassy and rude' OC with a 'high IQ' might be seen as a mischievous, 'evil genius' in fanon, taking their strong personality traits to a new, more exaggerated level. And the 'Satan's daughter' with 'trust and abandonment issues'? She became a 'blood-lusted yandere' holding a knife in fanon art – quite the intense leap! So, why does this happen? Often, fanon springs from what fans find engaging or relatable, or simply from filling in gaps the canon might not have fully explored. It can be wish fulfillment, shipping dynamics, or just creative freedom. As creators, while our canon is sacred to us, embracing fanon can be a really fun part of the OC journey. It shows that your characters resonate enough for people to invest their own imagination into them. It's a testament to their impact, even if the interpretations are far from what you originally intended. It just goes to show how diverse artistic perspectives can be!
