Eye Contact, Yeah That Shit Is Awkward As FUUUUK 😅

2/3 Edited to

... Read moreI've definitely felt the same way about eye contact—it can sometimes feel like an intense stare that makes you want to look away immediately. For many people, especially those with social anxiety or certain neurodivergent traits, eye contact can trigger a feeling of overwhelm or discomfort. One thing I've found helpful is to remind myself that eye contact doesn't have to be constant; natural breaks and glances are perfectly normal in conversations. Another strategy that worked for me was practicing eye contact in low-pressure situations, like with close friends or family. Gradually, it became less awkward, and I gained more confidence in social settings. I've also noticed that focusing on the area just beside the eyes, like the bridge of the nose, can create a feeling of making eye contact without the intensity. Additionally, humor can help ease the tension—once you can laugh at the social awkwardness, it becomes less intimidating. For example, internally acknowledging something like the quote from the image, "IM GLAD I'VE GOT BS. THE LAST THING I NEED IS SOMEONE MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH ME," can sometimes reduce stress by embracing the awkwardness instead of fighting it. Ultimately, understanding that many people find eye contact challenging can be liberating. You're not alone, and with gradual exposure and self-compassion, eye contact can become a comfortable part of your social interactions.
