Cory nodded, his expression thoughtful. “I get that. And for what it’s worth… I think you’re doing great. You seem like someone who knows exactly what she wants.”

Her heart fluttered at his words. “Maybe. But right now, I’m just figuring it out as I go.”

He chuckled, raising his glass. “To figuring it out, then.”

She laughed, the sound light and melodic, and clinked her glass against his. “To figuring it out.”

When the waiter brought out the tiramisu, they decided to share it, though Cory quickly realized Madison had a sweet tooth. He teased her as she scooped the last bite onto her fork, and she playfully swatted his hand when he tried to sneak it from her.
