I hate being aware of my mortality 🙃

6/16 Edited to

... Read moreGoing to the ER unexpectedly can be a sobering experience that forces you to confront your own mortality head-on. When I visited the ER for what I thought was a simple pinched nerve, I wasn't prepared for how deeply it would affect me mentally and emotionally. It made me realize how fragile health can be, even when you feel relatively fine. The experience taught me the importance of paying attention to your body’s signals and not ignoring symptoms, no matter how minor they may seem. While a pinched nerve is often not life-threatening, the act of going to the ER always brings up feelings about the possibilities of more serious health issues. During my wait in the ER, surrounded by others with a variety of ailments, I couldn’t help but reflect on life’s unpredictability and the value of being present and appreciating each day. This kind of awareness can be uncomfortable—there’s a reason I said I hate being aware of my mortality—but it’s also a crucial part of growing and understanding what truly matters. For anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation, my advice is to acknowledge your fears, ask questions to your healthcare providers, and use the experience as a moment to reassess your health habits and priorities. Sometimes these moments are wake-up calls to lead a healthier lifestyle or simply to cherish the time we have. Personally, this ER visit has encouraged me to be more mindful and proactive about my health while embracing the emotional complexity of realizing our human vulnerability. It’s not always easy, but it can lead to a richer, more meaningful perspective on life.

Two hands are clasped together, one with a tattoo. Overlay text lists desired 'high maintenance' treatments: reassurance, romance, consistent communication, and being prioritized.
Being “Low Maintenance” Isn’t Always a Good Thing
Hot take: “low maintenance” sounds cute, but it can actually be a trap. 🙃 There’s a difference between being chill and just ignoring your own needs. It becomes a problem when you: Keep quiet instead of speaking up Settle for half-hearted effort Hide what you really want Mistake “peace”

Being Honest: I hate being skinny 😔
I understand how folks feel about skinny people being insecure, but I just had to rant. All bodies are beautiful, that is something I can get behind. But I don’t think my body suits me. It’s hard to love my body when I see other girls who are considered skinny but have thicker calves that don’t

What Being 25 Has Taught Me
I love reflecting and being self-aware! Being in this realm for 25 years has taught me: 💭My prefrontal cortex has fully developed. 🧠 💭Therapy is a blessing! 💭 Making new friends as an adult is HARD! 💭 My goal isn’t to be married, have kids, or be a homeowner right now and that’s OKAY. 💭

Journaling: A love-hate relationship 🖤
I used to think journaling alone would fix everything that if I just wrote enough, I’d eventually feel better. I realized I was just venting my thoughts, not transforming them. The real growth began when I started working with a coach who gave me structure and helped me go deeper. She didn’t jus

Text "FORCED SEPARATION" is shown over open books, explaining a dislike for this trope because romance requires proximity, with "The Scarlet Princess" book cover cited as an example.
book tropes I hate ❌😤
