College lessons on truth

3/28 Edited to

... Read moreDuring my college years, I often encountered moments where I had to accept that conflicting feelings or ideas could both be valid simultaneously—just like the lesson that 'two things can be true at the same time—even if they disagree.' For example, I found classes both thrilling and frustrating; professors could be inspiring yet tough; and sometimes I felt on top of my game but still doubted myself internally. This paradox is part of the authentic college experience. One memorable incident was when a professor addressed why growth can hurt but honesty helps. At first, I resisted the idea, feeling uncomfortable admitting gaps in my knowledge or shortcomings in my work. However, by embracing honesty with myself and others, I became more open to constructive feedback. This transparency was both funny sometimes—like when topics that seemed “clean” or straightforward ended up being more complicated—and annoying when it challenged my comfort zone. The idea that feet can smell right after a shower, being both funny and annoying, captures the essence of many college experiences: things are rarely just one way. This duality teaches resilience and self-awareness. Learning to navigate these contradictions equipped me with skills beyond academics, such as emotional intelligence and adaptability. Ultimately, college life teaches us to hold space for complex truths. It’s a journey of understanding that growth involves pain, contradictions, and ultimately, greater honesty. Keeping this mindset can help students approach challenges with a balanced perspective and embrace the full spectrum of their experiences while developing into authentic and thoughtful individuals.
