... Read moreThe last ten days of Ramadan are truly special, a time when many of us strive to intensify our worship and seek Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power. But let’s be real, life doesn’t stop just because it’s Ramadan! Many of us are still navigating school, work, and personal projects, making it feel like a real challenge to fully immerse ourselves in spirituality. I've been there, trying to figure out 'what to do in the last 10 days of Ramadan' while still ticking off my daily responsibilities.
From my own experience, like the busy day I just shared with you—filled with film critiques, acting out a 'death scene for a project,' and even vlogging—it’s all about finding a balance. It's not always about grand gestures, but consistent effort. One thing I've learned is to integrate spiritual acts into my schedule rather than waiting for perfect, uninterrupted blocks of time. For instance, I make sure to pray Dhur and Asr on time, even if it means stepping away from editing a vlog or taking a quick break from being a camera woman on set.
When it comes to making the most of these blessed nights, especially Laylat al-Qadr, I try to prioritize certain acts of worship. Increasing my recitation of the Quran, even if it's just a few verses at a time, makes a difference. Dua (supplication) becomes even more frequent – I try to make du'a during my breaks, in between lectures, or while prepping for Eid planning. There’s a special peace that comes from knowing you’re connecting with Allah despite the hustle and bustle. The image of 'Thuggin it out Thurs' and that 'PLAY DEAD' scene for my project actually reminds me of how sometimes you just have to push through the fatigue, both physical and mental, for something larger than yourself.
Another practical tip for these intense days is to be mindful of what you're consuming for Iftar and Suhoor. When you're busy with 'finishing a project' or watching 'AKIRA' for a class, it's easy to grab something quick. However, nourishing your body properly, like I did with my simple water, pretzels, and plantain chips for breaking fast, can give you the energy needed to sustain both your studies and your spiritual goals. Hydration is key! Trying to get a short nap in, like I did after watching my movie, can also help you feel refreshed for night prayers.
Finally, remember that Allah sees our effort. It's not about perfection, but about sincerity and intention. Even if your 'last 10 days of Ramadan' looks like a juggling act between 'film critiques,' project deadlines, and trying to fit in extra prayers, every small step counts. May Allah accept our efforts and grant us the blessings of these precious days.
