I’m actually doing a lot better about it but I have such a sweet tooth😭 #sugar #ehlersdanlossyndrome #brainfog #fatigue #invisibleillness
Cutting down on sugar can feel especially tough for those of us living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and related symptoms like brain fog and chronic fatigue. I’ve found that my sweet tooth often fights back strongly, even after I tell my brother I’m cutting out sugar — a struggle many can relate to. What helps me is focusing on gradual changes rather than an all-or-nothing approach. For example, substituting sugary snacks with naturally sweet fruits or small portions of dark chocolate has made it more manageable. Additionally, managing fatigue through balanced meals including protein and complex carbs supports more stable energy levels, which in turn reduces sugar cravings. Brain fog can make decision-making harder around meals, so prepping snacks beforehand creates easier access to healthier options. I also discovered that staying hydrated and incorporating gentle movement, like stretching or short walks, can improve overall wellbeing and lessen the urge for quick sugar fixes. It’s important to be compassionate with yourself during this process. Invisible illnesses such as EDS often complicate what seems straightforward to others. Sharing experiences with a supportive community can offer motivation and practical advice tailored to these unique challenges. Remember, progress isn’t linear, and every small step toward reducing sugar contributes to feeling better in the long run.
