... Read moreWhen I first embarked on my journey into marriage, I often pondered what it truly meant to be a 'godly wife.' It wasn't just about finding 'a good thing,' as the saying goes, but about cultivating a heart and spirit that honored God and truly blessed my husband and family. Through prayer, reflection, and leaning into the wisdom of scripture, I've discovered some beautiful qualities that have profoundly shaped my understanding and experience.
One of the cornerstones, for me, is love for God and family. It starts with a deep, personal relationship with God, allowing His love to flow through me to my husband and children. This love isn't just a feeling; it's an active choice to prioritize their spiritual and emotional well-being, to pray for them, and to create a home filled with grace.
Then there's self-control. This has been a big one! In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's so easy to react impulsively or let emotions get the best of us. But learning to pause, pray, and respond with wisdom rather than immediate emotion has brought so much peace into our home. It’s about guarding my tongue and my heart.
Being a keeper of the home is another aspect I truly cherish. This doesn't just mean tidiness (though that helps!), but creating a sanctuary where everyone feels safe, loved, and nourished – both physically and spiritually. It’s about making our home a place where God's presence is welcomed, a place of rest and joy. I love seeing our Holy Bible open on the table, a constant reminder of our foundation.
I've also come to embrace the heart of a servant. Marriage, to me, is a partnership of serving each other out of love. It’s about anticipating needs, offering support, and putting my husband's and family's well-being before my own. This spirit of service truly makes our bond stronger, reminding me of that beautiful verse, "A cord of THREE strands is not easily BROKEN Ecclesiastes 4:9-12." Our marriage, God, and us – truly unbreakable.
Cultivating a grateful heart has been transformative. It’s easy to focus on imperfections, but choosing to see and appreciate the blessings, the small gestures, and the love around me fills our home with positivity. I often find myself thinking, "To my husband I will say: You're the proof that God answers prayers." What a blessing!
And then there are qualities like being modest, kind, submissive, and obedient. These might sound traditional, but I’ve found them to be deeply empowering in a godly context. Modesty, for me, is about humility and integrity in how I present myself. Kindness is the gentle touch, the understanding word. And 'submissive' and 'obedient' aren't about being a doormat; they are about mutual respect, trusting my husband's leadership as he trusts God, and working together in unity as we both seek to follow God's will. It’s about a dance of faith and love, not a power struggle.
Embracing these qualities hasn't been a checklist to tick off, but an ongoing journey of growth and faith. Each day brings new opportunities to practice patience, extend grace, and deepen my commitment to being a blessed wife. It's not always easy, but the rewards of a marriage rooted in God's word are immeasurable. I truly believe that when we strive to be godly wives, we build homes that reflect heaven on earth.
