I don't believe in New Years resolutions.

I used to be the queen of resolutions. I'd have a list ready to go for when midnight struck. I never went through with anything though. 3 months tops was about how long I would stick with my resolutions and then I would give up because resolutions are typically unsustainable and mine definitely were. I gave up resolutions and opted for making small and consistent changes all throughout the year without any major expectations.

It’s like, when life is already feeling heavy, why add the burden of guaranteed failure? What I've learned is that our energy is a finite resource, especially when life feels tiring. Piling on more "shoulds" doesn't help; it just leads to burnout. That’s why I’ve completely shifted my approach. Instead of those grand, often insecurity-based goals that leave you feeling inadequate, I now focus on tiny, consistent changes. Think of them as micro-habits. For example, instead of aiming for a massive 'body transformation' or trying to hit the gym seven days a week, I started with just five minutes of stretching every morning. It sounds almost ridiculously small, right? But it's something I could actually do consistently, even on my most tiring days. That consistency, built from small, achievable actions, is where the real power lies. Another big realization for me was about avoiding insecurity-based goals. So often, our resolutions come from a place of feeling "not good enough" – not thin enough, not smart enough, not productive enough. These kinds of goals are inherently exhausting because they're rooted in self-criticism. Instead, I try to ask myself: what small action would genuinely make me feel better or more aligned with myself, regardless of external validation? Maybe it's spending 10 minutes journaling, or finally tackling that one small chore that's been nagging me. These tiny wins add up, building momentum and making life feel less tiring because you’re constantly making positive, self-affirming progress. The idea of a 'lack of guaranteed consistency for weight loss' or any other big outcome is so true. We often fixate on the end result, which can be demotivating when progress isn't linear. That’s why consistent changes are so much more effective. Instead of 'lose 10 pounds by March,' which is an outcome-based goal with no guaranteed consistency, I'd say 'walk for 20 minutes three times a week.' The focus shifts to the action you can control, and the positive side effects (like feeling less tired, more energetic, and yes, potentially losing weight) follow naturally. It's about being kind to yourself and understanding that sustainable change isn't about giant leaps; it's about a series of small, steady steps. When life feels so tiring, the last thing you need is more pressure. Embrace the power of the small. Those consistent changes, chosen from a place of self-care rather than insecurity, are the real game-changers for making your everyday life feel lighter and more manageable.
