Reasons you feel overwhelmed? and how often?

How often do you feel overwhelmed and why? I am looking for some answers to relate as I do get overwhelmed quite often by life events, changes, and disappointments. Then, I feel bad about me feeling overwhelmed as other people are okay with similar things.

... Read moreOkay, let's get real for a moment. You know that feeling, right? When your brain just goes into overdrive, and even the smallest task feels like climbing Mount Everest? I've been there so many times, feeling utterly swamped and wondering why everyone else seems to be effortlessly gliding through life while I'm drowning in a teacup. It's more than just being 'stressed'; for me, feeling overwhelmed manifests as a fog in my head, a tightness in my chest, and that nagging voice telling me I'm not doing enough, or worse, that I'm overreacting. The original post really resonated with me when it mentioned feeling 'bad about me feeling overwhelmed as other people are okay with similar things.' That self-judgment can be the heaviest part of it all. What I've learned on this journey is that being overwhelmed isn't a sign of weakness; it's often a signal that something needs attention. For me, it often stems from piling too much on my plate, saying 'yes' when I desperately want to say 'no,' or getting caught up in the comparison trap. Information overload from social media can be a huge trigger too – suddenly everyone else's highlight reels make my reality feel inadequate. And yes, those 'disappointments' hit harder when you're already stretched thin, making you question your resilience even more. Over time, I've started recognizing my personal 'red flags.' Maybe it's when I can't focus on a single task, or when I find myself endlessly scrolling instead of doing what I need to do. When I hit that wall, I've had to figure out what actually helps me regain some balance. One thing that has become a personal ritual for me is creating a small moment of quiet calm. It sounds simple, but grabbing my favorite ceramic mug filled with warm tea or coffee, finding a quiet spot by the window – especially near my thriving Monstera plant – and just taking a few deep breaths while looking out at the sunny, green landscape has been surprisingly grounding. It's my little peaceful moment of reflection that helps me hit the reset button and process what's happening. I've also started being much more intentional about setting boundaries, both with others and with myself. It's okay, truly, to say, 'I can't take that on right now' or 'I need some quiet time to recharge.' I've found that breaking down big, scary tasks into tiny, manageable steps makes them feel less daunting. Instead of 'clean the entire house,' it becomes 'load the dishwasher' or 'sort one pile of mail' – and that feels achievable, building momentum instead of dread. Another game-changer has been journaling. Just getting all those swirling thoughts out of my head and onto paper helps to untangle them and often reveals patterns I hadn't noticed. It's like decluttering my mind. And honestly, realizing that so many others feel this way too has been incredibly validating. We often suffer in silence, thinking our struggles are unique, but the truth is, feeling overwhelmed is a very human experience. If you find yourself constantly battling this feeling, remember you're not alone, and there are small, actionable steps you can take to reclaim a sense of calm and control. Sometimes, though, if the feeling persists and impacts your daily life significantly, reaching out to a professional for support is a brave and healthy step. There's no shame in it.
