宇都宮駅で「パン屋どこにしよう？」となったときに、私が立ち寄りやすいのが駅ビル内のリトルマーメイド宇都宮店。改札から近いので、電車の待ち時間や乗り換えの合間でも買いやすくて助かります。店内に入った瞬間の“焼きたてパンがいっぱい！”な香りが強くて、つい予定より多めに選びがちです。 私のお気に入りは、やっぱり明太子フランス。外側はカリッと、切ると中はふわっとしていて、明太子の塩気がしっかり。フランスパン系って時間が経つと固くなりやすい印象ですが、焼きたてのタイミングに当たると別物みたいに食べやすいです。もし持ち帰りで翌日に食べるなら、軽くトースターで温め直すと香りが戻って満足度が上がりました。 甘い系だと、てりたまデニッシュみたいなデニッシュ生地の商品があるのが嬉しいポイント。サクサク系の生地はイートインでコーヒーと合わせるとちょうどよく、駅ナカでも落ち着いて食べられました。イートインスペースがあるので「すぐ食べたい」「荷物が多くて外で食べづらい」日にも便利です。 メニュー選びで迷ったら、まずは“定番＋気になる季節もの”の組み合わせが失敗しにくいと思います。定番は明太フランスやフランスパン系、惣菜パン、塩パン系。そこに、見た目で惹かれたデニッシュや期間限定っぽい商品を1つ足す感じ。価格帯はパン屋として一般的で、1個ずつ買っても調整しやすい印象でした（食べたい量に合わせて選びやすいのが駅のパン屋の良さ）。 あと、リトルマーメイドはサンドイッチ系も揃っているので、朝ごはんや軽めのランチにも向きます。時間がない日は、サンド＋小さめのパン1個にすると満足感が出ました。宇都宮駅周辺でパンを探しているなら、まず候補に入れておくと使い勝手がいいお店だと思います。
