Clear Sealant/Epoxy (Optional): To protect the shell and give it a nice finish. Ready to get crafting? Here’s how I tackled it step-by-step: Clean Your Shells: Even spent shells can be a bit dirty. I gave mine a good wipe down with a damp cloth and made sure they were completely dry inside and out. Some people even lightly polish them to bring out the brass shine. Mark and Drill the Hole: This is perhaps the trickiest part. Decide where you want your key ring to attach. I chose the very top edge of the plastic casing. Using a small drill bit, carefully drill a hole. Go slow and steady to avoid cracking the plastic. If you're working with metal, it might require a stronger drill. Always wear safety glasses! Create the Wire Loop: This is where the brass wire comes in! I cut a piece of brass wire (about 3-4 inches long, but it depends on your desired loop size). I then threaded it through the drilled hole, twisted the ends together to form a secure loop, and then used my pliers to wrap the excess wire neatly around itself, ensuring there were no sharp ends. You could also use an eyelet screw if you prefer, but I loved the handmade feel of the wire. Attach the Key Ring: Once your wire loop is secure, simply thread your chosen key ring onto the loop. Voila! You have the basic structure of your keychain. Optional Finishing Touches: If you want to protect the shell from wear and tear, or just give it a glossy look, you can apply a clear sealant or a thin coat of epoxy. I also experimented with adding small beads to the wire loop for a bit of extra flair. Some people even personalize them further by engraving initials on the brass base, though that requires special tools. And that's it!
