今回の天体ショーでは、6 つの惑星が夕方の空に一列に見える「惑星直列」が楽しめます。日没直後の約30分間という短い時間が観察の狙い目ですので、晴れている地域にお住まいの方はぜひこの機会を逃さずに西の空を見上げてみてください。 特に木星と金星は街中でも非常に明るく見え、目を引きます。土星も肉眼で比較的確認しやすく、リングのイメージが伝わってくるかもしれません。水星は地平線近くで見つけにくいため、周囲の建物や地形に遮られない開けた場所が適しています。双眼鏡を持っている方は、天王星や海王星にもチャレンジしてみましょう。 私はこれまで何度か惑星直列の観察を試みましたが、特に空気の澄んだ晴れた冬の夕方が絶好のコンディションでした。今年の2月28日も、天気予報で関東から九州にかけて晴れの予報が多く、観察には最適です。沖縄など南の地域では日の入りが30分ほど遅いため、少し長めに星空を楽しめるのも魅力的です。 観察をする際のコツは、まずお天気情報を確認し、街の明かりの届きにくい場所を選ぶこと。望遠鏡や双眼鏡があればさらに多くの惑星を観察できますが、肉眼でも十分に楽しめます。また、防寒対策もお忘れなく。冷え込む季節の夕方は暖かくして外に出る準備をしましょう。 このような天体ショーはなかなか頻繁には見られない貴重なイベントです。家族や友人と一緒に夜空を眺めながら宇宙の神秘を体感する時間は、何ものにも代え難い素敵な体験になります。次回のチャンスもいつ現れるかわからないので、今回の観察をぜひ楽しんでください。
