「はらJIN」って検索すると名前は見かけるのに、どんな絵の人？どの作品で知った？が意外とまとまって出てこなくて、私も気になって掘り下げました。きっかけはサンリオキャラクター大賞の話をしてた時に、懐かしいキャラクターの話になったこと。そこから、昔集めてた文房具の記憶が一気に戻ってきました。 まず私の中で大きかったのが「DON & NOO（ドンとノオ）」。猫っぽいキャラがあかんべしてたり、表情がやたら豊富で、当時の“ちょい生意気でかわいい”空気がそのまま詰まってる感じが好きでした。ステッカーシート、ノート、定規みたいに、学校で使えるものが一式そろってたのもポイント高くて、気づいたら身の回りがDON & NOOだらけになってた時期があります。 で、ここからが「はらJIN」さんにつながるところ。あの絵柄を改めて見てみたくて調べたら、イラストレーターのはらJINさんが手がけていたと知って納得しました。線のシンプルさと、顔の“変なかわいさ”（いい意味で）がすごく特徴的で、モノクロでもキャラが立つんですよね。OCRにあった白黒イラストみたいに、ゴルフしてる場面でも猫の表情がちゃんと面白い。 さらに驚いたのが、ギンビス「たべっ子どうぶつ」の初期パッケージにも関わっていたという話。今のパッケージと見比べると、同じシリーズでも雰囲気が違っていて、初期のほうがより“イラスト感”が強い印象でした。私は完全にお菓子としてしか見てなかったから、「え、これもはらJINさんの流れなの？」って、点と点がつながる感じがしてテンション上がりました。 もし「はらJIN」で調べてここにたどり着いた人がいたら、手元にある昔の文房具やシールを一回見返してみてほしいです。DON & NOOってロゴが入ってるだけで一気に記憶が戻るし、同じ“猫っぽい表情のクセ”を他のイラストでも見つけられると楽しいです。 私はついでに、バニー＆マッティのジグソーパズルも思い出して引っぱり出しました。欠けてるところがあっても、当時の部屋の空気や、家族でパズルをやってた時間までセットで残ってる感じがして、こういう「キャラクターの思い出」って捨てられないなって改めて思いました。
