My recent trip to Rodney Scott's BBQ in Atlanta was an experience I just had to share in more detail! You know how much I love a good BBQ spot, and this one definitely lives up to the hype, even with a tiny note on the ribs. Let's talk about those pork ribs first. In my initial review, I mentioned they were a bit tougher than I usually prefer, but the flavor? Hands down, some of the best I've ever had. Imagine that deep, smoky, dark-crusted pork ribs perfection, a result of their whole-hog cooking tradition. The bark was incredible, packed with a savory rub that just melted into the meat as you chewed. While some might prefer fall-off-the-bone, the chewiness here felt intentional, letting you really savor that intense smoky flavor. And their BBQ sauces? Absolutely stellar – I loved how they complemented the meat without overpowering it, offering a perfect balance of tangy and sweet. Beyond the ribs, the spread we ordered was a true feast. The shredded chicken was incredibly tender and juicy, clearly benefiting from the same smoky treatment. And the turkey slices? Often an afterthought at BBQ joints, but here they were moist and flavorful, a great lighter option. Now, for the sides – these are crucial at any BBQ place, right? The mac & cheese was heavenly. It had that perfect creamy texture with a beautiful golden-brown top, indicating it was baked to perfection. A true comfort food superstar. Then there were the collard greens, a vibrant green side that was seasoned just right, not too bitter, with a hint of smokiness. And the coleslaw offered a refreshing crunch, balancing out the richness of the meats. I also have to give a special shout-out to the banana pudding. It was the perfect sweet ending, generously topped with both crushed cookies and whole vanilla wafers. It felt homemade and was just absolutely delightful, a must-order if you still have room! Looking at the pictures, seeing that full spread with cornbread and onion rings just makes my mouth water all over again. Even though I didn't get to try the cornbread on this visit, it's definitely on my list for next time, along with those crispy onion rings pictured. The atmosphere at Rodney Scott's BBQ Atlanta is everything you'd expect from a top-tier BBQ joint – casual, lively, and filled with the delicious aroma of smoked meat. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, dig in, and truly enjoy a hearty meal with friends or family. For anyone visiting Atlanta or even locals looking for a fantastic BBQ experience, Rodney Scott's is a solid choice. Don't let the slight chewiness of the ribs deter you; that flavor profile is genuinely unforgettable. It’s a testament to their craft and dedication to traditional whole-hog barbecue. I'm already planning my next visit to dive into those flavors again!
