My go-to snack when I have no appetite
It’s been a hard couple of days since I was recently prescribed a tough medication, and the side effects are not good. It has been making me nauseous and sick for the past few days. At the same time, this medication is forcing me to make healthier choices in my diet, which has been a process. However, as I have lost some of my appetite, I have found “salty” fries and Sprite to be a great combination for my nausea.

What’s your go to snack choice when you have no appetite?
It's so real when your body just craves something specific to get through a rough patch, even if it's a 'cheat day snack' like those salty french fries and a bubbly drink! I totally get it. When I'm feeling under the weather or dealing with medication side effects that zap my appetite and bring on that awful queasy feeling, finding anything that sounds good can be a huge challenge. While a treat like fries and Sprite can be a temporary comfort (and sometimes, that's exactly what you need to feel human again!), I've also discovered a few other go-to snacks that really help settle my stomach and give me a little energy when appetite is nowhere to be found. For those really tough days, bland snacks are usually my best friend. Think simple, easy-to-digest options that won't upset your stomach further. Classic saltine crackers or plain toast are always a winner for me. They don't have strong flavors or smells that can make nausea worse, and they're great at absorbing excess stomach acid. I even keep a sleeve of crackers by my bedside for those middle-of-the-night queasy moments. Another great option is dry cereal, like plain Cheerios, which can be nibbled slowly. Another lifesaver for nausea is anything with ginger! Ginger chews, ginger tea (warm or iced!), or even just a small piece of crystallized ginger can work wonders. I've found that the natural anti-nausea properties of ginger are super effective without being too overwhelming. For a quick fix, sometimes even a ginger ale (make sure it's real ginger ale and not just ginger-flavored soda) can help, similar to how a fizzy, bubbly drink might offer some relief. Sometimes, cold snacks are the only thing I can stomach. Popsicles, especially fruit-flavored ones, are amazing for hydration and a little burst of flavor without being heavy. Applesauce is another gentle, easy-to-eat option that provides some quick energy and is very easy to digest. Even just sipping on clear broths or sports drinks can make a difference in keeping you hydrated and giving you essential electrolytes when you can't manage solid food. And speaking of hydration, it’s so crucial when you’re nauseous! Even if you can’t eat much, sipping on water, clear broths, or even electrolyte drinks throughout the day can prevent dehydration, which can actually worsen nausea. It's a delicate balance trying to nourish yourself when your body feels off, but finding those small, comforting snacks, whether it's my french fries and a bubbly drink or some bland crackers, can make a world of difference. What are your tried-and-true bland snacks or specific remedies when nausea hits?
